Helen Mae Michaelson, 91, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, December 23, 2020, in the Benedictine Living Center Crookston.
Helen was born on February 19, 1929 in Crookston, the daughter of Richard and Hattie (Gibben) Goodyke. She grew up on the family farm and attended a nearby country school. Helen was united in marriage to Luvern “Vern” Henry Michaelson on July 10, 1952 at Euclid, MN. They began their lives together on a farm near Euclid until moving to a farm northeast of Crookston in 1959. Two children, Jerry and Janet, were born to their union. Vern and Helen were life partners; together they ran their farming operation, growing small grains and raising livestock. Sadly, Vern passed away on June 23, 1982. Helen continued farming for a few years longer, before retiring in 1985. She then bought a home in Alamo, TX where she spent winters for the next 25 years. She made many close friends in the park where she lived and enjoyed helping out in the park’s office and post office. She also became very active in local missionary work there.
Helen was a hard worker all her life; a lover of the outdoors and all things in nature. She enjoyed watching her kids as they worked the fields and found great joy in having her grandkids with her on the 3-wheeler, as well as, keeping her company in the tractor. Helen’s favorite pastimes included playing cards, shuffleboard, and crocheting.
Helen had a deep faith that was very important to her during her 91 years. She grew up attending the Christian Reformed Church and in 1983 became a member of Valley Christian Fellowship in Crookston. She had currently been attending the Church of Christ in Crookston.
Helen is lovingly survived by son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Kim Michaelson of Crookston, MN; daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Les Sannes of Mentor, MN; 4 grandchildren: Josh (Meagan) Michaelson, Lindsey (Eric) Erdman, Jennifer (Trent) Berg, and Sarah (Dan) Hanson; 11 great-grandchildren: Chase and Brody Michaelson, Nash and Quinn Erdman, Barron, Rockwell, and Mila Berg, and Preston, Hudson, Paisley, and Hadley Hanson; 3 sisters-in-law: June Goodyke and Janice Simmons of Crookston, and Dorothy Michaelson of Euclid; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. In addition to Vern, her beloved husband of 30 years, Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Hattie Goodyke; several siblings and their spouses: John Goodyke, Henry (Mayme) Goodyke, Andrew Goodyke, and Anton (Claire) Goodyke; and from Vern’s family: parents-in-law, Henry and Frances Michaelson, and brothers-in-law, Marvin “Bud” Michaelson and Russell Simmons. May God bless the memory of Helen Mae Michaelson.
