Adeline Fontaine

Adeline Fontaine, 84, of Aitkin, formerly of Crookston, MN, passed away on May 16, 2015 at her home. Adeline was born to Andrew and Marie (Oistad) Melhouse on November 10, 1930 at her parents' home near Trail, MN. She was raised in the Crookston area, graduating from Crookston High School in 1948. She worked in the Polk County Treasurer's Office for a short time. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Lawrence (Larry) Fontaine. They were married on January 21, 1950 in Crookston. Eleven children were born to Larry and Adeline. She spent her life being a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker in Crookston. Larry passed away in July of 1986. In 2009, she moved to Moorhead, MN and in 2012, she made her home in Aitkin, MN. Adeline enjoyed traveling, keeping up with current events, completing crossword puzzles, listening to NPR, and taking long drives with her children. Her greatest pleasure came in spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her children: Paul (Becky), Elmira, OR; Cheryl Schreck, Gentilly, MN; Lynn (Don) Gardner, Rochester, MN; Larry (Heather), Aitkin, MN; Susan (John) Klopstein, Middleton, WI; Bonnie (Mark) Sperling, Wadena, MN; Laurie, Fargo, ND; Amy, Robbinsdale, MN; and Carrie (Henning) Petersen, Glyndon, MN. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Martin and George; sisters, Mabel, Frances, and Emerald; her husband; two sons, Mark and Steven; one grandson, Nevin; and son-in-law, Greg Schreck. Mass of Christian Burial: 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 20, 2015, in Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston, with visitation from 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the church.
