Alma Jensrud, 83, passed away peacefully at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on October 8, 2014 with her loving family by her side. Alma was born in Crookston, Minnesota on January 3, 1931, to Albert and Stella Desrosier. Alma was the second of eight children, and she stayed close with her siblings through the remainder of her childhood and adult life. As a young child, Alma was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Gentilly, Minnesota. She also attended Rural County School before moving on to her high school education at St. Joseph Academy. On June 11, 1951, Alma married Donald Jensrud in Gentilly, Minnesota. During their marriage, Donald and Alma were blessed with seven beautiful children. As the family moved around to various towns in Minnesota, Alma loved being able to focus her attention on raising her children with love and care, and they turned out to be family-oriented adults who adored their mother. Alma and her family ultimately ended up settling down in her hometown of Crookston, where she was able to spend much of her time enjoying her hobbies of crocheting and gardening. Alma was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Crookston for many years, and she lived her much cherished faith out in her everyday life. She attended adult day care for 11 years, before moving into the Riverview Nursing Home. While there, she was appointed to the Riverview Nursing Home Resident Council Board, and was highly regarded by staff and residents alike. She even named herself the "Meeter and Greeter" of the nursing home! Alma was winner of the "2009 Aging Services of MN Caring-Heart Volunteer of the Year" award because of her dedication to the gardening at Riverview, and loved to spend as much of her time outside in the sun as possible. Even in her bedroom, she would bird and deer watch as much as possible, enjoying nature whenever she could. Two years ago, Alma had to move to Thief River Care Center, but continued to enjoy her favorite hobbies as well as receive visits from her loving family. Alma's loving and nurturing spirit will be missed greatly by her family, but they will hold their many memories of her dear to their hearts. Alma is preceded in death by her parents Stella and Albert Desrosier; sister Joanne Desrosier; son-in-law Gene Brown; step-mother Dorothy Carefoot; and grandparents. Alma is survived by her children Merle Jensrud (Kim) of New Rockford, North Dakota, Bonnie Bjorsness (John) of Newfolden, Minnesota, LaVonne Brown of Grand Forks, North Dakota, Curtis Jensrud (Betty) of Farmington, Minnesota, Monica Nicklay (Ralph) of Dilworth, Minnesota, Sharon DeNiear (David) of Golden, Colorado, and Randy Jensrud of Crookston; father of her children, Donald Jensrud; siblings Lawrence Desrosier (Delphine) of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Cecelia Raymond (Marlyn) of Crookston, Robert Desrosier (Delrose) of Richfield, Minnesota, Edward Desrosier (Deloris) of Roseau, Minnesota, Rita Plante (Vern) of Crookston, and Eloise (Jack) Ganser of Stillwater, Minnesota; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving family members.
