Amanda Marie "Margie" Roi, 92, of the Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji, MN, and a former Crookston, MN resident, went home to be with the Lord and her family, on Monday, October 15, 2012. Margie was born on August 22, 1920 in Crookston, MN, and was the second of five children of David and Alice (Thibodeau) Beauchene. She was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church in Dorothy, MN, and raised on the family farm near Huot, MN. In 1924, at the age of 4, Margie and her family moved to her grandfather's farm near Ponteix, Saskatchewan, Canada. She made her 1st Communion/Confirmation there on July 21, 1929. Later that same year Margie, who was now 9, moved with her family back to Huot. She enrolled in the nearby Huot Country School, and later attended St. Joseph's Academy in Crookston. Margie returned home to help on the farm and then on her 18th birthday moved to the Twin Cities to work as a nanny. On November 25, 1943 she married Leo Joseph Roi at St. Dorothy's Catholic Church. Leo, who was home on leave from the Army, returned to active duty and Margie stayed in Crookston, where she was employed at Woolworth's. After Leo's return from the service they moved to St. Paul, then to Huot, and finally settling in Louisville Township of Red Lake County, where they farmed and raised their four children. They were members of St. Dorothy's parish and she was active in the church guild. During the 1960's Margie worked as a nurse's aide at Hillcrest Nursing Home in Red Lake Falls, and then for the Riverview Hospital in Crookston. Leo and Margie moved into Crookston in 1972. Sadly, Leo passed away on July 28, 1982. Margie remained in Crookston, where she was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and volunteered her time at the Polk County Historical Society, and Golden Link Senior Citizen's Center. She enjoyed spending summers at Joe's Lodge on Lake Andrusia, near Bemidji. In 1995, Margie moved to Jordan, MN to be closer to family. She later moved to Belle Plain, MN, then New Prague, MN, while spending several winters in Florida with her son, and visiting her daughter in South Carolina. In 2005, Margie became a resident of the Havenwood Care Center, again to be closer to family, and had been living there to the present time. Her hobbies included doing crafts, crocheting, reading, watching TV (she loved cowboy movies), solving word-find puzzles, playing bingo, cooking, baking, shopping, traveling, and spending precious time with her children. May God richly bless the memory of Margie Roi. Margie is survived by her 4 children: Leo (Elaine) Roi of Sarasota, FL, Joan (Jack) Solders, Jr. of Summerville, SC, Judy (Rory) Potter of Cass Lake, MN, and Thomas (Jean) Roi of Duluth, MN; 6 grandchildren: Anthony Roi, Sherry (Herbie) Mizzell, Brian Roi, Jill Roi, Michael (Rachel) Roi, and Anne (Jon) Brantner; 2 step-grandchildren: Kevin and Molly Potter; 7 great-grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Cody, Dakota, Sierra, Meghan, Dylan, and Makayla; and 2 step-great-grandchildren, Lorraine and Jessica.
