Arlene Vrem

December 25, 1938 — June 11, 2016

Arlene Minnie Florence Vrem, 77, of Crookston, Minnesota passed away at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND with her loving family by her side on June 11, 2016. Arlene was born the eldest daughter of Gustav and Caroline Perchert on December 25, 1938 in Cooperstown, ND weighing only 2 pounds. While growing up Arlene worked side by side with her father who lovingly called her "Tootie." At the age of 16, Arlene waitressed in Fargo. Arlene met the love of her life Vernon while at a carnival in Binford, ND. The couple were united in marriage on November 24, 1957 in Cooperstown, ND.

Arlene and Vernon made their home in Tolna, ND where they were blessed with the birth of three children; Alan, Darrel and Pamela. In 1964, the family moved to Crookston, MN. They remained married for 53 years until Vernon passed away on December 19, 2011.

While residing in Crookston, Arlene held various jobs including Johnny's Pizza and the Viking until she secured employment with the University of Minnesota Crookston where she remained for 28 years. Arlene was loved by many of the students who frequently referred to her as "mom."

Arlene loved spending time with her family, especially at Christmas her favorite holiday. She enjoyed cooking and baking. Her specialties were caramel rolls and homemade buns which she frequently shared with neighbors, friends and family. Arlene thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her children, grand-children and great- grandchildren.

She loved playing cards which she still enjoyed doing every day. Arlene was an avid Bingo player where she met many friends. Arlene loved to bowl and was on a league for several years.

Arlene's excellent attitude and strong faith made her a survivor of skin cancer, breast cancer, and multiple strokes. Arlene's motto in times of trouble was to have faith as "God moves Mountains." Arlene was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2008 which continued to progress. Arlene has resided at Maple View Memory Care in Grand Forks since November 2013. She was kind, compassionate and loved by many. Arlene leaves behind a family who adores her, and friends who will miss her very much. May God bless Arlene's memory. Arlene is survived by her children Alan (DeeAnn) Vrem of Monticello, MN, Darrel Vrem of East Grand Forks, MN, and Pamela (Wes) Coleman of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren: Joshua Vrem, Jonathan McGee, Justin McGee, Ashley McGee, Ilse Coleman, and Zulieth Cryderman; great grandchildren: Angelo McGee, Bear McGee, Maximus McGee, Alexander McGee, Gabriel McGee, Piper McGee, Adian Stone, Zayla Cryderman, and Gwenivere Cryderman, and Sister-In-Law Gloria Perchert.

Arlene is preceded in death by her husband Vernon Vrem, sister Janice Borud, brother Jerome Perchert, and parentS Caroline and Gustav Perchert and five-day old infant grandson, Brandon James Vrem.
