Bernard E. Stroot, age 105, of Crookston, MN, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020, at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Bernard was born on November 15, 1915, on the family farm in Belgium Township, near Euclid, MN. He was the son of the late Frank and Emma (Klos) Stroot and attended Belgium Township School and later the Northwest School of Agriculture. He was baptized, confirmed, and was an alter boy at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Euclid. On October 5, 1940, he was married to Lucille Ann Ruther in Fisher, MN. He purchased a farm in Belgium Township and farmed until his retirement in 1979. He and Lucille then moved to Crookston, MN. He was member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception.
Bernard served on the board of the Gentilly Farmers Mutual Fire Insurance Company for 21 years, the Belgium Town Board, and the Belgium Township School Board and was a member of the Golden K. Kiwanis. In his free time, he enjoyed playing cards and horseshoes, visiting with friends and relatives, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins. He and Lucille traveled extensively once he retired from farming and enjoyed the time in their motorhome. Sadly, Lucille passed away on September 2, 2000. Bernard moved to the Summit Apartments in 2005 and then later to Villa St. Vincent.
Bernard is survived by his children, Dennis Stroot of Plymouth, MN, JoAnn (Robert) Davis of West Fargo, ND, Linda (Donald) Dargus of Meridian, ID, and Steven Stroot of Crookston, MN; grandchildren, Jason (Stacey) Stroot, Bryan Stroot, Kevin Stroot, Angie (Ray) Wohl, Christina (Chuck) Griffith, Robert (Stephanie) Davis, Jr., Scott (Jill Peterson) Dargus, and Dustin (Amy Woods) Dargus; great-grandchildren, Crystal Roisum, Alexis Wohl, Charlotte Stroot, Julia Stroot, William Davis, Teodore Dargus, and Tobias Peterson; brother, Robert Stroot of Tega Cay, SC; sister, Clarice Ellingson of St. Michael, MN; and sister-in-law, Wanda Stroot of Crookston, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other family members. He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lucille Stroot; parents, Frank and Emma Stroot; infant brother, David Stroot; brothers, Leo, Walter, Francis, Jerome, Joseph, and William Stroot; sisters, Irene Fitzsimmons, Dorothy Westphal, and Mary Pahlen; and daughter-in-law, Charlotte Stroot.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic the funeral service will be private but will be live streamed on Bernard’s obituary page at www.stenshoelhouske.com. Burial will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN.
