Bernice E. Samuelson, 83, passed away March 20, 2015, at Essentia Hospital in Fosston, MN. Bernice was born on September 4, 1931, in Crookston, MN, to Roy and Nora Tinkham of Fisher, MN, where she was raised and educated. She married Lester E. Samuelson on August 20, 1949, at the Fisher Lutheran Church. Throughout their life together they resided in Crookston, East Grand Forks, and Crookston a second time, before moving to Albert Lea, MN, in 1977. While in Albert Lea, they owned Westrum's clothing store until their return to Maple Lake in 1993. Early in Bernice's professional career she worked for the county ASCS office and later at UMC in the Athletic Director's office. After their years in Albert Lea, the couple retired to enjoy their time at the lake. Bernice and Lester spent many years traveling in their motor home visiting children in Alabama and Florida, and they too spent winters in south Florida for several years. Bernice is survived by her husband Lester, three children: Julie Taylor of Destin, FL, Janna Samuelson of Nashville, TN, and Jon and April Samuelson of Destin, FL. Grandchildren include: Jason Taylor of Destin, FL, Kari (Taylor) and Willie Camp, Kim (Taylor) and Bill Hamlin, Kristine (Taylor) and Shane Goggans, all of Fort Payne, AL, Briana Samuelson of Seoul, Korea, Ben Samuelson of Birmingham, AL, Amber Tubbs of Jasper, AL, and Ashley Barrentine of Charleston, SC. Also included are ten great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Bernice was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Nora Tinkham, brothers: Arthur, Earl and Alton Tinkham, all of Fisher; sisters-in-law, Wilma Tinkham and Muriel Tinkham; and son-in-law, Larry Taylor of Fort Payne, AL. The funeral service for Bernice Samuelson will be held at 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN, with The Rev. Michael Sletto, officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at the Fisher Lutheran Cemetery, Fisher, MN.
