Charles Brewster, 53, of Crookston, MN passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and loving family, the evening of February 7, 2012. Charles was born June 5, 1958 in Newnan, Georgia to Maggie Brewster. He attended Newnan High School and graduated in 1977. Charles worked at the BIB Factory in Newnan, GA until his move to Crookston in 1998. While living in Newnan, Charles met Rhonda DeLong and following a chase to get her, she finally said yes, and the two began their lives together. Charles and Rhonda were married March 21, 2007 at their son's house in Grand Forks, ND.
Upon return to Crookston in 1998, Charles began his employment as a factory worker at Phoenix for six years. Charles' diagnosis in December of 2006 did not slow him down. He was active with his children, often playing and performing music for them, dancing with Rhonda, participating in and watching sports, especially the Atlanta Falcons; hosting barbecue's, and cooking breakfast for the entire family. When asked to describe their dad, Charles' children expressed he was "awesome," "dependable," "trustworthy," and a jokester. Charles would often light up the room when he entered. He will be greatly missed, may God Bless Charles' memory. Charles is survived by the love of his life, Rhonda Brewster; ten children, Chris Powell of Newnan, GA; Bruce (Katie) DeLong of Grand Forks, ND; Geoffrey DeLong of Crookston; Little Charles Jr. Brewster of Thief River Falls, MN; Ciara Brewster, Jordan Brewster, Jasmine Brewster (Marcos Rodriguez), Jaleesa DeLong, Alexandria DeLong, and Aaliyah Brewster, all of Crookston. His memory will live on with his grandchildren, Maddie and Mason DeLong and one on the way (Jasmine Brewster & Marcus Rodriguez); his mother-in-law, Deloris Chambers; sister, Mildred Brewster of Newnan, GA; brother, Leon Brewster of Cincinnati, OH; Horace James (Pat) Brewster of LaGrange, GA; brother-in-law, John Chambers (Julie Miller), sisters-in-law, Sheila DeLong of Crookston and Karen Chambers; and his best friends, James and Charlene Limper, all of Crookston. Charles' also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews, including Germaine Strickland, Cherise Thornhill, Dawn Goulet, Chandra (Rick) Brewster, and Gina Brewster. Charles is preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Aaron Brewster, Leonard Brewster, and Tony Brewster; and father-in-law, James Chambers. A funeral service celebrating Charles' life will take place on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with The Rev. Bill Reck, officiating, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Visitation with the family will occur one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.
