Cindy Jo LaFleur, 62, of Crookston, MN, died Sunday evening, February 1, 2015, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND after a brief illness. Cindy was born at Crookston, MN on August 25, 1952, the daughter of Walter and Delores (Gullekson) Smith. She grew up in Crookston and was a graduate of Central High School. In 1970, Cindy married LeRoy Clemenson, and they were blessed with the births of two children, Jason Lee and Jodi Lynn. During these years she was employed at the J. R. Simplot Company, and later at Thom's Linen, before going to work for the American Crystal Sugar Company. On December 5, 1979 Cindy was united in marriage to Dennis LaFleur at their home in Crookston. Both were employed at American Crystal which is where they first met. Cindy and Dennis worked together throughout their marriage, and during those early years they also managed the Barrette Arms Apartments. Later they were employed at Yates Texaco. Cindy then became a realtor with Century 21 in Crookston, while also working at Thomforde's Garden Center. She was employed seasonally with the US Department of Agriculture taking samples of the potato crops in the area, and cleaned houses for several Crookston families. Cindy enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales, using her expert's eye in searching for antiques and other pieces of value. She spent several years gathering up things she acquired, and in 2003 realized the longtime dream of opening a business known as 'Timeless Treasures Antiques.' She and Dennis, together with best friend and business associate, Jody Thomforde Menge, owned and operated the business to the present time. Cindy was a lifelong gardener and landscaper, and took great pride in maintaining her beautiful park-like yard. She was an avid reader, a huge NASCAR fan, and enjoyed watching crime dramas on tv. Dogs were a big part of Cindy's life and she and Dennis shared their home with Rufus, her constant companion, three turtle aquariums, and a sole surviving bird that has been with them for 29 years. Cindy welcomed birds, squirrels, and rabbits to her yard, and after a long Minnesota winter eagerly anticipated spring and the wonders of nature reborn. Cindy and Dennis took road trips all around the country, visiting five Canadian provinces and all but 15 of the United States. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy and Cindy proudly kept up with all of their activities, and spent as much time with them as she could. Great sadness came into her family's life with the death of son, Jay, on January 24, 2011. Not a day passed that he wasn't in her thoughts and prayers. Grateful to have been a part of Cindy's life is her beloved husband of 35 years, Dennis; daughter and son-in-law, Jodi Lynn and Will Enlow of Crookston; 4 grandchildren: Brooke Clemenson (Dustin Schwebach) of St. Cloud, MN, Megan Pierson (Brady Johnson) of Fargo, ND, and Anna and Casey Enlow of Crookston; her mother and step-father, Delores and Ed Kurpius of Crookston; and parents-in-law, Ted and Fern LaFleur of Crookston. She also leaves 7 siblings: Kelly (Eileen) Smith of Langford, SD, Monty (Sharon) Smith of Yuma, AZ, Scott (Patrick Prochaska) Smith of Mpls, MN, and Connie Smith, Janie Ricord, Sherri (John) Helgaas, and Tracy Smith, all of Crookston; siblings-in-law, Bill (Kim) LaFleur of Apache Junction, AZ and Susan (Bill) Doran of Gilbert, MN; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. In addition to her dearly loved son, Jay, she was preceded in death by her father, Walter, brother-in-law, Curt Greenwood, and nephew, Lance Smith. May God richly bless the memory of Cindy Jo LaFleur.
