Clarice Anderson

Clarice Mae Anderson, 82, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully Monday evening, November 18, 2013, at the RiverView Care Center in Crookston. Several of her children were at her side. Clarice was born at Fisher, MN on August 3, 1931, one of ten children of the union of Clarence and Mabel (Larson) Hannah. She lived with her family at Fisher and attended Fisher Elementary School through the 2nd grade. In 1937 the Hannah family moved to Crookston, where Clarice attended school, graduating from Central High School with the Class of 1949. Clarice's first employment was in the office of the Myrold Insurance Company. On July 9, 1955 she was united in marriage to Donald Alroy Anderson at The First Presbyterian Church in Crookston, where she was a confirmed member. The couple made their home in Crookston and over the years their marriage was blessed by the births of seven children: Debbie, Denny, DeAnn, David, Duane, Denise, and Dale. In addition to running a very busy household and looking after Don and the kids, Clarice was able to maintain a career that included employment with the Crookston Clinic followed by several years at RiverView Hospital. Prior to her retirement in April of 1998 she worked for the Polk County Nursing Service. Sadly, Don passed away on October 31, 2008. Clarice was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She and Don had enjoyed several trips together, and her favorite pastimes included working in her flower garden, and decorating her home for every holiday of the year. Clarice had a wonderful sense of humor that she was always sharing with her family, and she loved each and every one of her kids and grandkids with all her heart. Clarice leaves her 7 children and their families: Debbie (Chuck) Thiry of Batavia, IL, Denny (Jan) Anderson of Sioux City, IA, DeAnn (Barry) Molstad, and Duane, David, and Dale Anderson, all of Crookston; and Denise (Dale) Ruder of Kalamazoo, MI; 9 grandchildren, Nick, Jenna and Marissa Thiry, Chelsea, Haley and Donnie Anderson, Lexi (William) Weir, and Paige and Mason Ruder; 6 siblings: Bert (Gloria) Hannah of Meridian, ID, Vera (Edward) Pester of Fisher, MN, Glenn (Carol) Hannah of Renville, MN, Curt (Kathy) Hannah of Baxter, MN, Charlie (Diane) Hannah of Becker, MN and Sharon (Wayne) Burtness of Watkins, MN; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, including Leona Hamerlik of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Marie Gates of Twin Falls, ID, Marcy (Will) Roberts of Circle Pines, MN and Dean (Laurel) Anderson of Tucson, AZ; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Don, her beloved husband of 53 years, Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mabel Hannah; 3 siblings, Ken Hannah and his wife, Betty, Roger Hannah, and Muriel Tinkham and her husband, Alton; her parents-in-law, Alfred and Hazel Anderson; 2 sisters-in-law, Bernice Cassavant, and Marlene Schulz and her husband, Ralph; 2 nieces, JulieAnn Link and Susie Burbank; a nephew, Sean Anderson; and special friends, Roy and Winnie Nephew. The funeral service and celebration of the life of Clarice Mae Anderson will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, November 24, 2013, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Bill Reck, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Saturday from 5-7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, and also at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
