Dallas Leroy Stortroen, 82, a beloved member of the Climax community, passed away on August 3, 2023, at the Benedictine Living Community in Crookston, Minnesota. He will be remembered as a hardworking individual with a vibrant personality and numerous interests.
Born on December 25, 1940, in Crookston, Minnesota, to loving parents Morris and Georgia (Koppang) Stortroen; Dallas grew up surrounded by the beautiful landscapes of the state. After attending Climax High School, he embarked on a career that would span several industries. Dallas worked diligently for the Corner Gas Station in Climax, where his friendly demeanor and dedicated service earned him the respect of his colleagues and customers. He then pursued his passion for driving as a truck driver for Ryan Potato and Britton Transport, leaving an indelible mark on the transportation industry.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Dallas was known for his zest for life and charismatic personality. He possessed a remarkable sense of direction - a trait that astounded those who knew him well. Never needing directions, he always knew where he was going in life. Dallas had an infectious sense of humor and was famous for his "Ole Jokes," which never failed to bring laughter into any room.
One could often find Dallas recounting captivating stories from his days as a trucker. His experiences on the road were countless, and he took pleasure in sharing them with friends and family. His trucker stories not only entertained but provided glimpses into the vastness and diversity of our world.
Outside of work, Dallas cherished his hobbies and interests. He was an avid fan of classic television shows such as "The Andy Griffith Show" and old Western films. These sources of entertainment brought him joy and provided opportunities to unwind after long days on the road. Moreover, Dallas found solace in his faith as a member of both the East Grand Forks Bible Baptist Church and later Bible Baptist of Crookston.
Dallas also proudly served his country as a member of the Navy from 1958 to 1959. His commitment and dedication earned him an honorable discharge. His service was a testament to his patriotism and love for his nation.
Dallas Leroy Stortroen's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind cherished memories, an exemplary work ethic, and a charismatic spirit that touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the community he called home.
Dallas is survived by his children, Michael (Kirstie) Stortroen of Grand Forks, ND, Heather Flores (Michael) of Colorado, and step-daughter Cheyenne Stortoren of Grand Forks. Brothers, Steven and Randy Stortroen; Sister, Gail Satermo; Grandchildren: Lakeishia, Alexander, Carson, Rueger, Paisley, Emiliano, and Kalista.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Georgia; brother-in-law Dennis Satermo; and sister-in-law Vicki Stortroen.
