David Joseph Lundon, 90, of Bemidji, MN and formerly of Crookston, MN, passed away Sunday evening, October 27, 2019, at his home surrounded by his beloved family at his side.
Dave was born on his parent’s farm near Ada, MN on July 14, 1929, one of 6 children of the union of David and Mary (Cahalan) Lundon. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ada; educated in schools at Ada, Gary, and Lockhart; and ran track and participated in school plays before graduating from Ada High School with the Class of 1946. Dave enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on September 7, 1948 and was stationed stateside. Following his honorable discharge on July 20, 1950 he returned home and worked in Ada. Dave began courting a pretty young Ada girl by the name of Doris Lorraine Brueshoff and he told her he wanted nothing more than to hold hands with her for the rest of his life. She liked the sound of that and they were united in marriage on June 25, 1952 in Crookston, where they made their home. Dave was among the first employees of the newly constructed American Crystal Sugar Company plant and worked the very first harvest campaign. A few years later he and Doris moved to Hibbing, MN where Dave worked in the iron mines for a year. Next came a move to Ada as he became a fertilizer sales rep for the Agsco Company. Eventually the family, which had grown to include son, Perry, and daughter, Sheri, returned to Crookston and his employment with the Olin Company as their fertilizer sales rep. The years passed all too quickly and Dave took his well-deserved retirement from Olin in the early 1990’s. His favorite pastimes included gardening, maintaining a beautiful yard, and camping with Doris and the family. Four years ago the couple moved to Bemidji to be closer to their daughter, Sheri, and her husband, Kent.
Dave and Doris were devoted longtime members of Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston. He held every position of leadership within the Church while serving on the Council, as a Sunday school teacher, and on several boards. While in Bemidji they attended Bemidji United Methodist Church. Dave rarely missed an opportunity to watch his grandkids play basketball and baseball, and was also an avid fan of the Vikings and Twins. As his health began to fail he found great comfort in wrapping himself in a big Vikings blanket, a gift given to him by grandkids and great-grandkids who thought their “papa” was pretty darn special.
Dave will be lovingly remembered by Doris, his wife and best friend for over 67 years; their son, Perry Lundon and his wife, Nancy, of Devils Lake, ND; daughter, Sheri Minske and her husband, Kent, of Bemidji, MN; 4 grandchidren: Molly Lundon of Fargo, ND, Alex (Jocelyn) Lundon of Devils Lake, Adam (Jessie) Minske of Bemidji, and Amanda (Ryan) Peters of Grand Forks, ND; and 7 great-grandchildren: Logan, Harrison, Reid, Olive, Keion, Penelope, and Wells. He also leaves 2 brothers, James (Eleanor) Lundon of Crookston, MN and Mike (Mary) Lundon of St. Peter, MN; a sister, Florence (Jack) Donaldson of Apple Valley, CA; 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Tollerud of Moorhead, MN and Mavis Hedin of Fargo, ND; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, David and Mary; parents-in-law, Levi and Bertha Brueshoff; brother and sister-in-law, John and Joy Lundon; and an infant sister.
The funeral service for David Lundon will be held at 11:00am, Friday, November 1, 2019, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston with The Rev. Michelle Miller, officiating. Visitation will be at the Church for one hour prior to the service. A 1:30pm graveside service will follow in the Ada Municipal Cemetery at Ada, MN. In lieu of flowers please consider a gift in Dave’s name to Sanford Hospice of Bemidji or the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston.
