David Paul Vick, 77, of Mentor, MN, passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2018, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
David was born in Crookston, MN on September 8, 1941, one of 4 children of Arthur and Alice (Couvrette) Vick. He grew up in Crookston, was baptized and confirmed at St. Anne’s Catholic Church, and received his education at St. Joseph’s Academy, Cathedral High School, and Crookston Central High School.
After high school David moved to Burbank, CA for 1 year, where he worked at the General Motors Assembly Plant. After returning to Crookston he enlisted in the U.S. Army on September 19, 1960. He was stationed overseas at the Darmstadt Army Base in Germany as the 38th Artillery Battalion assisted the country with their rebuilding efforts post WWII. Following his honorable discharge on September 5, 1963 David returned to Crookston. For the next several years he held jobs at the Crookston Times and Riopelle Cleaners performing equipment operation and maintenance for both. On January 15, 1966 David was united in marriage to Judith Marie Anderson at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. Their marriage would be blessed by the births of 2 sons, Todd and Troy. In 1967 David began driving a truck for the local Coca-Cola Bottling Company. In October of 1976 the family moved to Fargo, ND, and later to Moorhead, MN, where David was employed as a Service Technician at Western Paper, later known as XPEDX. He retired from the company in 2004. In semi-retirement he continued to work in the Sanford Health print shop and to also provide service to area printing companies through his own company.
In September of 2007, after many years of spending weekends and holidays with family and friends at their lake home near Mentor, MN, they decided to make it their permanent piece of paradise. Through the course of their married lives, he and Judy were members of St. Francis Catholic Church and St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, and currently St. Lawrence Parish in Mentor. David was well known for lending his handyman skills to anyone in need of help. He loved working with his hands and building, fixing and repairing pretty much anything put in front of him. He was especially proud of helping put the finishing touches on St. Lawrence Catholic Church and then serving as handyman and caretaker for as long as he was able. He loved his family greatly and especially his grandchildren, who could talk grandpa into just about anything.
David is survived by Judy, his beloved wife and best friend of 52 years; their two sons and daughters-in-law, Todd and Joan of Marysville, WA, and Troy and Melissa of Lakeville, MN; 7 grandchildren: Mindi, Kyle, Ashley, Jordan, Zachary and his wife, Savannah, Stephanie, and Andrew Vick; and a precious great-grandson, Brady Troy. He also leaves 2 sisters, Leatrice O’Keefe of Grafton, ND and Rose Ehlen of Frederica, DE; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice Vick; brother and sister-in-law, James and Joan Vick; 2 brothers-in-law, James O’Keefe and Marv Ehlen; and parents-in-law, Charles and Hannah Anderson. May God richly bless the memory of David Paul Vick.
