Dean Alan Solheim, age 50, of Crookston, MN, passed away at his home on Monday, February 3, 2014, with members of his loving family by his side. Throughout Dean's courageous battle against a rare form of cancer called carcinoid, he found comfort in his faith, and the love and support of his wife, children, parents, and other family and friends. Dean was born in St. Paul, MN on February 14, 1963, and grew up in Crookston with his parents, Eugene and Carol (Demarais) Solheim. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and graduated from Crookston's Central High School in 1981. During high school Dean worked for Applequist Farms, rural Crookston. On September 2, 1983 he was united in marriage to Diane Marie Aitchison of Fisher, MN, in a ceremony that took place in St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Dean attended the AVTI in East Grand Forks, MN where he received an Associate of Arts degree in diesel mechanics in 1985. The couple then moved to Bottineau, ND, where he worked at the John Deere implement dealership. Son, Jared, was born to them in 1987. Dean, Diane and Jared later moved to Grafton, ND and he was employed at Case IH. Daughter, Mandy, was born at Grafton in 1988. In 1990 the family came to Crookston and Dean was service manager for Crookston Implement. Several years later he worked at Butler Machinery in Grand Forks, followed by service manager positions in later years with Cokato Equipment in Cokato, MN and for over 9 years at Evergreen Implement Company in Warren, MN. Since March of 2012 to the present time Dean had been the service manager for Zeigler Equipment in Crookston. Dean and Diane have been active members of the Fisher Lutheran Church in Fisher. Dean was an avid hunter and fisherman for most of his life, and greatly enjoyed motorcycling and four-wheeling. Dean and Diane loved camping and boating, and have spent many wonderful summers at Long Lake, near Park Rapids, MN, enjoying life near the water, while forming many new friendships. Dean takes leave of a family he loved so dearly, and they are left with treasured memories of him that will live on in their hearts forever. Family members include Diane, his beloved wife of 30 years; son, Jared Solheim, and his wife, Ceara, of Moorhead, MN, and their son expected in April; daughter, Mandy Solheim, and her fiance', Aaron Horak, of Fisher, MN; parents, Eugene and Carol Solheim of Crookston, MN; sister, Susan (Greg) Spillman of Brooklyn Park, MN; 2 brothers, John (Carolyn) Solheim of Eagan, MN, and Steven (Kelly) Solheim of Burnsville, MN; and a niece and 2 nephews: Vivian Spillman, Tyler Solheim, and Nick Solheim.
