Delsie Darlene Foreman

May 21, 1936 — March 29, 2024

Gilbert, AZ

Delsie Darlene Foreman, 87, passed away March 28, 2024, at Eternal Spring Senior Living in Gilbert, AZ.

Delsie was born on May 21, 1936 in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Clarence and Lelia (Steiner) Charais. She was baptized and confirmed at First English Church, Eldred, MN, and graduated from Crookston Central High School as Valedictorian of the Class of 1954. She attended Moorhead (MN) State Teachers College, now known as Minnesota State University Moorhead, and earned her BA in 1958 with a major in elementary education and a minor in vocal music. She later attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley during summer breaks and completed her MA. From her early years Delsie wanted to teach kindergarten. Her first posts were at Lowell Elementary in Brainerd, MN and then Lewis and Clark Elementary in Fargo, ND. In 1966 she moved to Cedar Falls, IA and joined the faculty of Malcom Price Laboratory School at the University of Northern Iowa. She was an assistant professor of kindergarten and early childhood education until the 1975-76 school year, which she spent in Germany on an academic exchange program. During her nonacademic activities in Germany, Delsie met her future husband, George W. Foreman, a computer expert who was employed on a military contract at the same base where she was teaching. By the time she tied up loose ends at home and returned overseas George had moved to an assignment in Khartoum, Sudan. They were married there on May 4, 1976. George’s job took the couple to one more exotic locale, Saudi Arabia, before they returned to the United States.

Delsie loved to travel and George had a generous vacation allotment so they visited many European and Asian locations before making their home in Vienna, VA. After George’s death in 1988, Delsie, no fan of snow and cold, retired in Gilbert, AZ. All the family and friends who visited her there enjoyed her experience and enthusiasm as a guide to the many sights and eateries in and around Gilbert.

Delsie is lovingly survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Dale and Laura Charais of Crookston, MN; sister, Corrine Charais of Bloomington, MN; nephews, Alec Charais and wife, Susie, of Andover, MN, and Brad Charais and wife, Shawna, and their son, Allen, of Fargo, ND; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Foreman; parents, Clarence and Lelia Charais; and infant sister, Carol Faye.

May God richly bless the memory of Delsie Darlene (Charais) Foreman.
