Diane Renee Mackowick, 59, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012, at the Riverview Hospital in Crookston, MN. Diane was born to Milo and Mildred (Cota) Vilven on January 13, 1953 in Crookston. She lived much of her life on the family farm east of Angus, MN and graduated from Warren High School in 1971. Diane then moved to Thief River Falls to attend Northland Community College. While there, she was employed in retail sales and as a waitress. In 1980, Diane moved to Crookston and was employed at the Credit Bureau, and as a waitress at the Northland and Your Host Restaurants. In 1981, Diane met her best friend and other half, Jon Mackowick, and the two were united in marriage on October 10, 1987 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Euclid, MN.
Diane was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish, and American Legion Auxiliary. She was full of life and enjoyed laughing and making others smile. Diane enjoyed watching professional baseball and football, always cheering for the Minnesota's Twins and Vikings. Diane was an avid collector of the comics, "Family Circus" and "Today's Thought" taken from the Grand Forks Herald, she would cut them out daily and share them with friends. Diane also enjoyed watching QVC and purchasing items to add to her extensive collection of clothing. Diane will be greatly missed. May God bless Diane's memory. Diane leaves behind her loving husband of 24 years, Jon Mackowick; mother, Mildred Vilven of Crookston; sister, Linda (Gene) Shomshack of St. Michael's, MN; brother, Scott (Susan) Vilven of Crookston, and children, Derrick and Brett; brother-in-law, Gary (Bernie) Mackowick of Argyle, MN and children, David, Vincent, Chad, and Jenna; and her special friend, Susan Sylvester of Crookston. Diane was reunited with her father, Milo Vilven; younger brother, Edward Vilven who passed away in 2005; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Leo and Audrey Mackowick. A Mass of Christian Burial for Diane Renee Mackowick will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, with The Very Rev. Bob Schreiner, presiding. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston. (Online registry at www.stenshoelhouske.com)
