Dominic Herkenhoff

November 9, 1986 — October 26, 2014

Dominic August "Dom" Herkenhoff, 27 of Crookston, MN, died early Sunday evening, October 26, 2014, in a traffic accident in Crookston. Dom was born in Princeton, MN on November 9, 1986, the son of Michael "Mick" and Sandy (Johnson) Herkenhoff. He grew up in Elk River, MN, where he graduated from high school. Throughout his life Dom suffered from severe depression and anxiety. He tried his best to overcome the toll it took on his mind and body, but the illness was incurable. Dom moved to Crookston after high school and was employed with Minn-Dak Asphalt for two years. He then went on his own, and for the past five years had been the proud owner of his own seal-coating business, known as Git-R-Done Asphalt Seal Coating. He also provided lawn care and snow removal services to the community, and as holder of a CDL license hauled sugar beets every fall during the harvest. Dom's favorite pastimes included jet-skiing and tubing at Grandma and Grandpa Herkenhoff's lake cabin, and enjoying Grandpa Herkenhoff's spaghetti with his special sauce and Grandma Baird's Stuffed French Toast Strata. He was very mechanically talented, and liked loud classic pick-ups, fireworks, and anything that made a lot of noise. Most of all, Dom loved to help people and do whatever was needed to ease someone's burden. He hardly ever went anywhere without his constant companion- his pet dog and best friend, "Smokey Bear." May God bless Dom's memory and give him peace. Dom will be very sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his parents, Mick and Sandy Herkenhoff of Crookston; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, niece and nephew: Amy and Mike Meyer and their children, Grace and Noah of Sioux Falls, SD, and Bridget and Travis Meidinger, also of Sioux Falls; his grandparents: Carol Baird of Crookston, Jean Herkenhoff of St. Cloud, MN, and Don Johnson of Climax, MN; and great-grandmother, Evelyn Scully of Crookston. Dom also leaves several aunts and uncles: Carol (Jeff) Ous of Stillwater, MN, Robert Herkenhoff of Crookston, Linda (Kelly) Brown of St. Joseph, MN, Thomas Herkenhoff of St. Cloud, Peggy (Tom) Jivery of Hibbing, MN, Jerry (Annette) Baird of Crookston, Robert (Natalie) Baird of Crookston, Robyn Conkins of Fargo, ND, Brian Johnson of Buffalo Creek, CO, Shelly Trudeau of Plymouth, MN, and Kim (Jim) Cote of Oronoco, MN; and many cousins and extended family members. Dom was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Fred Herkenhoff and John Baird. Mass of Christian Burial for Dominic August Herkenhoff will be held at 10:30am, Friday, October 31, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with Msgr. Roger Grundhaus, presiding, and Deacon Dennis Bivens, homilist. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Thursday from 5-7:00pm, with a 7:00pm prayer service, and at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston. Online registry:
