A Celebration of Life Services for Donald Janssen, 77, of rural Ceylon, Minnesota, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon, Minnesota with Rev. Russell Reimers Officiating. Burial will be in Lake Belt Cemetery in rural Ceylon.
Don was called to his eternal rest on Thursday afternoon, March 24, 2016 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville, Iowa. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday at the Kramer Family Funeral Home in Sherburn, Minnesota and one hour prior at the church on Tuesday. Please share a memory of Don with the family, sign his online guest book at www.kramerfuneralhome.com Donald Christ Eric Janssen was born on July 15, 1938 to John and Elsie (Plath) Janssen at Fairmont, Minnesota. He was baptized on July 31, 1938 and later confirmed on June 3, 1951 both at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dunnell. Don received his education in rural country school near Dunnell, and later was a 1956 graduate of Ceylon High School. In October 1956, Don enlisted with the US Army, serving for two years, and received his honorable discharge in 1958. On September 27, 1959, he was united in marriage to Mary Ann Schultz in Welcome, Minnesota. They farmed in the Ceylon and Dunnell area, until retiring in 2001. Don was a Pioneer Seed Corn Salesman from 1986 until 1995.
He was an active member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Ceylon, and held many offices in the church. He served on the Lutheran Retirement Home Board, Lutheran Laymens League and the Nassen-Detert American Legion Post # 529 of Ceylon. Don greatly enjoyed going for coffee, shaking 6-5-4, playing cards, going boating, waterskiing, snowmobiling and playing golf. He especially loved spending time making memories with his family. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Janssen of rural Ceylon, Minnesota; his three children, daughter, Julie (Russ) Laue of rural Fairmont, Minnesota, son, Dale Janssen of rural Dunnell, Minnesota, daughter, Lisa (Steve) Bohler of Crookston, Minnesota; grandchildren: Jennifer (Jeremy) Jacob, Michael (Amy) Laue, Erica (Matt) Berhow, and Katelyn (Mike) Steeves; eight great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, June Janssen of rural Dunnell, Minnesota and Fern Beetsch of Napa, California; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, sister-in-law, brothers-in-law: Harold and Olga Janssen, Marvin Janssen, Gene Beetsch and Donald and Lyle Schultz and other relatives.
