Donald Wayne Juvrud, age 67, of Crookston, MN, died Tuesday afternoon, August 27, 2013, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, with his loving wife, Marilyn, and several family members at his side. He had been bravely battling cancer for the last several months. Don was born at Crookston on December 26, 1945, one of the three children of the union of Oscar and Marion (Hill) Juvrud. He grew up on the family farm near Fosston, MN, attended the nearby Moen country school, and graduated from Fosston High School in 1963. Don then attended Bemidji State College for three and a half years. On August 25, 1967 he entered the US Army and served a tour of duty in Viet Nam with the B Battery Artillery Group. In recognition of his service to his country Don was awarded the National Defense Medal, the Viet Nam Service Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. Following his honorable discharge on March 29, 1969 he returned to Minnesota and moved to Crookston where he was employed by the Polk County Highway Department. On May 31, 1975 Don was united in marriage to Marilyn Ann (Laurent) Harron at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Crookston. After a career that spanned over 43 years, he retired from the Highway Department in 2006. Don was a longtime member and financial secretary of the Wesley United Methodist Church, and also held memberships in Crookston's VFW Post #1902 and American Legion Post #20. Throughout his life he was very much an outdoorsman, and an avid hunter, fisherman, camper, gardener, and bird watcher. He enjoyed bowling, and loved to watch the Twins and Vikings. During the last months of his illness Don was comforted by the devotion of, Marilyn, the kids and grandkids, and his extended network of family. He will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed. May God bless the memory of Donald Wayne Juvrud.
