Dorothy Marion (Cornelius) Helgeson was born March 21, 1917, one of nine children born to Tom and Petra Cornelius. She married Milton Helgeson in Crookston on December 23, 1939 and to that union one child, Donna Mae was born. Dorothy passed away peacefully July 16, 2012. Dorothy spent most of her life in Crookston except for a brief time in St. Paul, MN; Dothan, AL; and Dover, OH. For the past five years she has been a resident of the Villa St. Vincent receiving the loving care of their staff. She worked many places throughout Crookston: Hasty Tasty, Ness Food Store, American Crystal Sugar Cafeteria, Osmon Drug, Thomas Drug, Snyder Drug, and most recently Thrifty White Drug, where she retired at the age of 81 to care for her husband. In 2005, she received Crookston's Experienced American Award. She is well known for being one of the best clerks in Crookston, managing the gift departments at these drug stores. She always knew what her customers wanted and when going on buying trips always had their interests at heart. To her family she was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. A mentor to all; she dished out great advice along with her plates of goodies. She loved to knit for them and play games. She was always ready for a fun picnic, trips, and game day at the farm. She was a devoted friend and loved to give rides to church to those that needed it, organizing reunions for the Camp Rucker gals and just being there when someone needed her. She will be forever in our hearts and greatly missed by her daughter Donna and son-in-law Roger Ulseth, grandchildren, Cheryl (Warren) Perala, Pamela Grove, Marc (Rose) Ulseth and Kathleen Ulseth-Tenold. Her great-grandchildren David (Samantha), Jason, and Isaac Perala, Bethany, Seth, Travis, Ethan, Cherith, Heather, and Annika Grove, Allie, Colee, and Jacob Ulseth, and Zachery and Faith Tenold as well as great-great grandchildren Christopher Martin, Angelica, Jasmine, Lucas, Gabriel, and Natalie Perala, brother in-law, Gene (Wanda) Helgeson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Milton in 2003; her parents, four brothers, Emil, Paul, and Carl Cornelius and infant brother Roy, four sisters, Magda Vick, Asta Ryan, Evelyn Mueller, and Eva Cornelius, sister in-law Elma Myrold, brother in-law Clarence Myrold, brother in-law Curtis Helgeson, and sister in-law Marlys Helgeson.
