Dorothy Rose Rock, 87, of Bemidji, MN, formerly of Crookston, MN resident, died at her residence, Cedar Cottage, on Thursday evening, October 10, 2013. Dorothy was born at Red Lake Falls, MN on October 22, 1925, the daughter of Joseph and Leah (Roi) Huot. On August 21, 1946 she was united in marriage to Lester Dale Rock at Dorothy, MN. The couple made their first home in Thief River Falls, MN where Les worked as a jeweler, before moving to Hallock, MN where they purchased a jewelry store. In 1957 they settled in Crookston, and became the owners of Rock's Jewelry and Gift Stores in both Crookston and nearby Warren, MN, as well as, operating stores in Fosston and Karlstad, MN. Sadly, Les was killed in an airplane crash on September 19, 1972, while flying near Leonard, MN, east of Bagley. Dorothy continued to run the Crookston store until her retirement after selling the business. Dorothy is survived by 6 daughters and 4 sons: Colleen and Mario Martinez of LaSalle, CO, Charlow and Paul Bakken of Crookston, MN, Rosalyn and Gary Rock of Boise, ID, Mary Lou and Brian Nielson of Rosemount, MN, Marcy and Ken Beich of Rochester, MN, Julie and Steve Donahoe of Independence, MN, Richard and Jean Rock of Erskine, MN, Rodney and Susan Rock of Bemidji, MN, Thomas and Barb Rock of Claremore, OK, and John Rock and special friend, Judy Cudo of Rockford, MN; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Marian Arneson of Granite Falls, MN; 3 brothers: Roy Huot of Grand Forks, ND, Dale and Arlene Huot and Bernard and Evie Huot of St. Hilaire, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her beloved husband, Les, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and 2 sisters, Ella Vickery and Lorraine Bondley. May God bless Dorothy's memory. Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Rose Rock will be celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m., with The Very Rev. Vincent Miller, presiding. Visitation will be at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Crookston. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials which will be given to BirchHaven and Cedar Cottage in Bemidji, MN.
