Duaine Kaiser

March 15, 1930 — September 18, 2017

Duaine Edwin Kaiser, 87, of Crookston, MN died at home on Monday, September 18, 2017. Duaine was born on March 15, 1930, the son of Stella (Perreault) and Frank Kaiser in Crookston, MN. He was baptized and confirmed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, MN. He attended Catholic grade school.

Duaine served honorably in the United States Marine Corps. He attended boot camp at Camp Pendleton, CA before being sent to Korea in the early 1950s. Duaine was united in marriage to Nona Rose Montreuil on May 31, 1952.  When he returned home from Korea he joined his wife and their new son, Duane Jr. in Crookston and began working at Peterson-Beddick.  Over the years four more sons joined the family, Mark, Timothy, Ronald, and Randy.

In 1967, Duaine began working for Crookston Grain and worked there for 33 years until his retirement in November 1996. Duaine walked to work most days to pick up his delivery truck and enjoyed driving and delivering fuel and visiting with his customers.

In his younger days he flew model airplanes, went square dancing with his wife, and delivered the Minneapolis Star Tribune on early Sunday mornings. Duaine enjoyed fishing with his Dad and sons—especially trips to Canada, deer hunting in the fall, tractor rides, tinkering on engines, visiting his boys at their homes and farms, and cruising in his 1952 Buick Special that he and Nonie restored. Duaine and Nonie enjoyed traveling to South Dakota over the years to visit his Marine buddy, Elmer and his wife Dolly Musch.

Duaine and Nona took a few special trips abroad and to Alaska and Hawaii in their retirement, but home is where he loved it best.  He was always up for a visit with friends and neighbors. Sundays you would find him and Nonie in church and then he would watch the NASCAR race.  Duaine’s family will fondly remember his laugh, facial expressions, and nicknames he gave everyone.

Duaine was proceeded in death by his wife of 63 years, Nona Rose; brother Jim; brother Gene (Joey); and parents. He is survived by his five sons, Duane Jr. (Vivian) of Bemidji, MN; Mark (Denise) of Climax, MN; Tim of Crookston, MN; Ron (special friend, Marva Bakken) of Crookston, MN; and Randy of Rosemount, MN; nine grandchildren, Taunya (Brian) Thoeny, Dustin (Sarah) Kaiser, Blake (Lois) Kaiser; Sara Rose Kaiser, Bethany (Josh) Moe, Sam (Kamil Zapasnik) Kaiser; Alex (special friend Larissa Kurpius-Brock) Kaiser, Ramona Kaiser; and Chelsea Kaiser; seven great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Pete (Marcy); Caesar (Suzie); Rozzie (Paul) Arness; and Dennis; loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and dear friends and special neighbors.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Duaine Edwin Kaiser on Saturday, September 23, 2017, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, in Crookston, MN, at 10:30am. Burial will follow immediately, at Calvary Cemetery in Crookston, MN.  A visitation will be held the night before, Friday, September 22, 2017, at Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston, MN, from 5:00-7:00pm, with a prayer service to follow at 7:00pm.  The Reverend Augie Gothman is presiding.
