Earl Radi

November 7, 1921 — January 26, 2013

Earl Alton Radi, age 91, of Crookston, MN, died Saturday afternoon, January 26, 2013, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, with several of his family, and his pastor, at his side. Earl was born in Lowell Township of Polk County, near Crookston, on November 7, 1921, and was the son of Emil and Selma (Reitmeier) Radi. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston, and was a lifelong member of the church. As a youngster he and his family moved to Yacolt, WA, returning to Lowell Township in 1930. Earl attended country school and later worked for his father on the family farm. On November 24, 1946 he was united in marriage to Eleanor Isabelle Olson at St. Paul's. The couple made their home in Crookston and together raised two daughters, Sheila and Brenda. Earl was employed as a milkman for 32 years, working for Supreme Dairy, the Farmers Co-op Creamery, Valley Dairy, Sanitary Dairy, and at the end of his career for Bridgeman-Land O'Lakes Dairy. In semi-retirement he spent 8 years, from 1980 through1988, as a Polk County Commissioner, serving on many county committees during these years as well. Earl became a resident of the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston last March Earl and Eleanor enjoyed many fun summer vacations when the girls were younger, and during their golden years had great memories while traveling from the Florida Keys to Canada's Banff National Park, and many points in between. They also spent 17 winters at Trophy Gardens Park in Alamo, TX until about 7 years ago. Summers would find the couple at Lake Winnibigoshish, Red Lake, or Springsteel Island on Lake of the Woods. Earl and Eleanor absolutely loved spending time with their family and enjoying the great outdoors; whether it be camping, hunting, or fishing. Favorite pastimes around the house included flower and vegetable gardening and tending to his raspberries and rhubarb; or tinkering in the garage fixing just about anything. Earl truly loved people and could make anyone laugh. Wherever he went he was constantly making new friends. Earl's faith was one of the most important things in his life. In addition to being one of the oldest members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church; he sang in the choir, gave other 'seniors' rides to church, served on the Board of Deacons, and was Sunday school superintendent for many years. He also helped out regularly with the Home Delivered Meals program. Earl will be very sadly missed by his family and many friends. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Eleanor; 2 daughters, Sheila (Randy) Hanson of Crookston, MN and Brenda (Kim) Nelson of Sioux City, IA; 2 grandsons, Christopher Hanson of New Hope, MN and Michael Hanson (Nerissa Sperling) of Crookston; and a great-grandson, Conner Hanson of Crookston. He also leaves a brother, Lloyd (Rita) Radi of Crookston; a sister-in-law, Marilyn (Charles) Arneson of Watertown, SD; an uncle, Delbert (Dulice) Reitmeier of Moorhead, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Selma; a brother, Dallas Radi; and an infant brother. May God bless Earl's memory.
