Edith Hendrickson

November 14, 1919 — April 8, 2013

Edith Marie Hendrickson, age 93, Crookston, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at her daughter's home in Crookston, surrounded by her loving family. Edith M. Mikulecky was born on November 14, 1919 in Hitterdal, MN, daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Sic) Mikulecky. She grew up near and was educated in Hitterdal, graduating from high school in 1937. She was united in marriage with Eldor Arne Hendrickson on July 6, 1945 in Ulen. They farmed near Twin Valley after they were married and then farmed near Waubun from 1947 until 1956. They lived near Mapleton, ND from 1956 until 1959 when they moved to Crookston. She worked as a waitress/cook at Mildred's Café, the Pizza Plaza and the Diamond Lounge and sold pull tabs at the Eagles and the Northland Lodge, retiring in 2001. Her infectious smile and friendly disposition gained her many friends who called her "Edie". She was called "Mom" by many of those she worked with at the Pizza Plaza and by her six children's many friends. She enjoyed embroidering towels and pillowcases for family members. She was an excellent and creative seamstress and sewed dresses and shirts for her children when they were little. She and her husband, Arne, enjoyed traveling to see their children and reminiscing with friends and family. She loved to cook and was famous for her potato salad and "Grandma Edie's hot dish". She was always baking, cooking and canning; making sure everyone had enough to eat. She was proud of her large collection of vases and her hutch full of elephants given to her as gifts over the years. She looked forward to listening to her sons' band the "Truants Five" whenever they played. She faithfully attended the annual "Holler's Festival" and last attended two years ago in 2011. She is survived by her children: Linda Havir of Minneapolis, Cheryl (Larry) Froehlich of Crookston, Dale (Joyce) Hendrickson of St. Michael, Miles (Teresa) Hendrickson of Bagley and Kevin Hendrickson of Crookston; grandchildren: Gabrielle, Brianna, Nathan, Daniel, Matthew, Heather, Taylor, Michelle, Christine, Amanda, Tess, Dana, Miranda and Natasha; great-grandchildren: Codee, Ian, Kilee, Norah K., Jesse, Logan, Cole, Isabella, Rhys and Ava Dean; a brother: Robert Mikulecky of Ulen. She was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Elizabeth Mikulecky; three brothers: George, Stanley and Frank Mikulecky; one sister: Mildred Duffney; sister-in-law and life-time friend Adella Mikulecky; her husband: Arne Hendrickson on July 22, 1999; a son: Larry Hendrickson on March 30, 2011.
