Edward Pester

September 1, 1939 — August 26, 2016

Edward Allen Pester, 76, of rural Fisher, MN, died peacefully Friday, August 26, 2016, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND, with his loving family at his side. Edward was born in Crookston, MN on September 1, 1939, the son of Harlan H. and Erin M. (Biever) Pester. He grew up on the family farm west of Crookston and attended Fisher Public School through the 3rd grade, then moved to Crookston where he completed his education as a 1957 graduate of Crookston's Northwest School of Agriculture. On November 15, 1958, he was united in marriage to Vera Lorraine Hannah at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, MN. Edward and Vera returned to the family farm west of Crookston and together raised six children: Diana, Barbara, Todd, Colin, Cynthia, and Nancy.

Edward had passion for his faith, caring for people, and farming. He was an active, life-long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston and openly shared his beliefs with those he encountered. Edward was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He adored Vera, from their first roller-skate dance through their 57 years of marriage; their love endured and grew deeper with each passing year. He also had a close relationship with each of his children and grandchildren, taking every opportunity to listen, teach, and care for them. Edward farmed for 27 years and thoroughly enjoyed preparing the soil, planting seeds, nurturing the crops, and harvesting what God provided, which paralleled his personal relationships. While farming, Edward served on the Minnesota Wheat Council and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, raising livestock, and deer hunting. Later in life, Edward operated a trucking company. He always enjoyed traveling, seeing new places, and meeting new people. In retirement, he enjoyed gardening, wood working, and raising chickens. Most importantly, though, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren by visiting with them, helping with projects, watching school activities, playing cards, and deer hunting. Through each interaction, he shared love, laughter, and compassion.

Edward will be lovingly remembered by Vera, his beloved wife; their six children: Diana Pester of Apple Valley, MN, Barbara (Richard) Krueger of East Grand Forks, MN, Todd (Dawn) Pester of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Colin (Marlys) Pester of East Grand Forks, MN, Cynthia (John) Farthing of Farmington, MN, and Nancy (John) McDonald of Fisher, MN; fourteen grandchildren: Nathaniel, Jeremiah, Hannah, Rebekah, and Jonathan Krueger, Hayden and Lara Pester, Carson and Blake Pester, Coleman, Justine, and Alyssa Farthing, and Adam and Elizabeth McDonald; his sister, Beverly J. Bergman of Edina, MN; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by an infant son; his parents, Harlan and Erin; and brother-in-law, Bruce Bergman. May God richly bless Edward's memory. The funeral service for Edward Allen Pester will be held on Friday, September 2, at 10:30 A.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston, with The Rev. Darrel Cory officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Thursday, September 1, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a 7:00 P.M. prayer service.
