Eleanor Johnson

November 26, 1915 — March 18, 2015

Eleanor Johnson, 99, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015, at the Villa St. Vincent, with her family at her side. Florence Eleanor Ueland was born on November 26, 1915 in Nielsville, MN, the daughter of Kalmer and Selma (Hanson) Ueland. While growing up on the farm near Shelly, MN she attended a nearby country school, and then spent her high school years at the Northwest School of Agriculture in Crookston. For several years she worked as a nurse's aide at the Bethesda Hospital in Crookston. On October 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to Theodore Kenneth Gordon Johnson in Crookston. Their marriage would be blessed by the births of two daughters, Debra and Kristie. She continued to work at Bethesda until the girls were born and then devoted herself to being wife, mom, and homemaker in a busy household. Cooking and baking for her family was something Eleanor loved to do. It also meant that the Johnson home became a gathering place for all the kids in the neighborhood, and a chance for them to enjoy some of Eleanor's baked treats. Sadly, Theodore passed away on October 13, 1984. Volunteering was very important to Eleanor and she devoted many hours to the RiverView Hospital Auxiliary and helping out at Wesley United Methodist Church where she was a very devoted member. She was a kind and gentle lady, with an ever-present smile that would light up the room. She would never ask for help, but was always there to help others. May God bless Eleanor's memory. Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Kristie Wagoner of Crookston, MN; six grandchildren: Fred (Linda) Swanson of Braham, MN, Tammy Thayer of Rush City, MN, Peggy (Todd) Sager of Princeton, MN, Andy (Mandy) Swanson of Braham, Amy Piatz of Stanchfield, MN, and Tony Wagoner (his significant other, Amy Johnson, and her children, Alexa Dittes, Taylor Johnson, and Jacob Else); fifteen great-grandchildren: Danny Swanson, Brittany Saumer, Ashley and Megan Swanson, Allissa, Madison, and Abbey Thayer, Brandon and Jenna Sager, Chelsey, Brooke, and Bethany Swanson, and Emily, Sara, and Amanda Piatz; two great-great grandchildren, Tanner and Kaylee Saumer; and other relatives. In addition to Theodore, her beloved husband of 42 years, Eleanor was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Swanson; parents, Kalmer and Selma Ueland; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kermit and Ursela Ueland.
