Elsie Ann Stroot, 99, of Crookston, MN, and formerly of Euclid, MN, passed away Monday morning, April 10, 2017, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, with her loving family at her side. Elsie moved from her home to the Summit Apartments in 2009 and then to the Villa in January of 2016.
She was born at Euclid on October 29, 1917, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Jenni) Jeuch. Elsie was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith, grew up on her parents farm in Euclid township, and attended a nearby country school. On October 3, 1947 she was united in marriage to Joseph Donald Stroot. Home for the couple was their farm in Belgium Township, near Euclid, where they raised their 4 children: Beverly, Marlene, Joseph Jr., and Carolyn. For 45 years Elsie and Joe also opened their hearts and home to over 200 foster children, ranging in age from newborns to teen-agers. Life on the farm, and with all the kids around, made for a busy life. She enjoyed cooking and looking after everyone, and still found time for her favorite pastimes, including sewing and crocheting without a pattern. Elsie loved being outdoors, spending time in the garden and tending her chickens and ducks. She was a multi-tasker in a big way! For many years Elsie and Joe belonged to a square dancing club, and loved to bring the kids with them on their night out. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Euclid, and a very devoted and loving Wife and Mom. Sadly, Joe passed away on October 25, 2008, just a few days after they celebrated their sixty-first wedding anniversary. Her family finds comfort in knowing that Mom and Dad are together once again.
Grateful to have been a part of Mom's life are her four children and their families: son, Joseph Stroot Jr. and Terri, of Euclid, MN; daughters, Beverly Parkin of Fisher, MN, Marlene Kalsnes and her husband, Don, of Turtle Lake, WI, and Carolyn Myerchin and her husband, Harvey, of Crookston, MN; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to her beloved husband, Joe, Elsie was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Ron Parkin, who died on December 2, 2013; her parents, John and Elizabeth; her parents-in-law, Frank and Emma Stroot; grandson, Tim Parkin; and 3 siblings: John (Francis) Jeuch, Josephine (Ernest) Johnson, and Emma Jeuch. May God richly bless Elsie's memory.
The Mass of Cristian Burial for Elsie Ann Stroot will be held at 11:00AM, Monday, April 17, 2017,
at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Euclid, MN with Fr. Emmanuel Sylvester, presiding. Visitation will be at St. Mary's on Monday morning for one hour prior to the funeral mass. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Crookston.
