Gertrude Martin

Gertrude A. Martin, 95, Crookston, MN was called to her heavenly home to live forever in glory on Sunday, November 15, 2015. Gert, the daughter of Oscar and Anna (Nelson) Olson, was born in Whitman, ND on December 2, 1919. She was baptized on January 11, 1920 as she received the promised blessing of being clothed with Christ. (Galatians 3:26) She was confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Grand Forks in 1934. She grew up and graduated from high school in 1938 in East Grand Forks. Gert married Harold Martin, a UND graduate, in Crookston at Our Savior's Lutheran Church parsonage on April 16, 1942. They were blessed with 64 years of marriage. They were wonderful parents to their four sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Earl and Jeannie Martin Jr. of Marion, TX, The Rev. Gary and Peggy Martin of Del Rio, TX, Dennis and Karen Martin of Crookston, Guy and Silvia Martin of Crookston. She is also survived by her sister Enid and Glenn Offerdahl of Largo, FL, sister-in-law Marion Olson of Green Valley, AZ, and Darlene Olson of Jamestown, ND. Gertrude was also blessed with eleven grandchildren, Todd (Taumi) Martin, Tara Martin, Sarah Martin, Keren (Greg) Mitchell, Abigail (Dathan) Mullins, Jonathan Martin, Christopher (Maggie) Martin, Derek (Jaclyn) Martin, Andrea (Chris) Martin Wilke, Birgetta Martin and Hallie Martin; and 14 great-grandchildren. Gert dedicated herself to serving our Lord especially in her family and her church, Our Savior's Lutheran in Crookston. She enjoyed visiting the sick and the shut-in, active in the Ruth Bible study, an officer of the LWML afternoon ladies group, also the quilting group, as well as having taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her great-granddaughter Anna, seven brothers, George, Larry, Alvin, Richard, Oral, Curtis, Ronald, and sister Alva. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, November 20, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Crookston. Visitation will be on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral and Cremation Service in Crookston.
