Ilene Mae Hasty, 84, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday evening, February 17, 2015, with family at her side. Ilene was born at Rindal, MN, near Fertile, on May 9, 1930, the daughter of John and Ida (Hovland) Hogenson. She grew up on the family farm and attended Pleasant View School #101; later graduating from Fertile High School in 1948. Ilene was united in marriage to Elmer Paul Hasty at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston on September 21, 1948. Five children were born to their union: Eloise "Ellie", John, Anita, Jeffrey, and Norman. The couple made their home in Crookston where Ilene worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses including: the New York Store, Gambles, the George Peter Store, and the Farmers Union Oil Company. In 1956 the growing family moved to Silver Bay, MN, where Elmer was employed by the Reserve Mining Company. In 1960 they moved to nearby Two Harbors, and Ilene was employed as a CNA at Lakeview Memorial Hospital from the early 1970's until her retirement in 1992. Elmer had earlier retired from Reserve Mining in 1986. Soon after Ilene's retirement she and Elmer moved to Fertile, MN, and in 1999 returned to Crookston. Elmer passed away on July 26, 2001. Ilene was a devoted member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception parish, and worked as a volunteer in the Cathedral office for a number of years. She held membership in the Retail Clerks Union, and was actively involved in the Crookston Eagles Auxiliary, the Villa St. Vincent Auxiliary, and the Golden Link Senior Citizens Center. In 2014 Ilene was honored by the Eagles Auxiliary as Eagle of the Year. She enjoyed visits to the Shooting Star Casino, quiet time reading, and spending time gardening and canning the "best sweet dill pickles" ever. She took great pleasure in sharing her bounty with family and friends. Ilene had a warm smile for everyone, and her kindness and love for her family will be a treasured memory for years to come.
Grateful to have been part of Ilene's life are her four living children and spouses: John and Helen Hasty of Gilbert, MN, Anita and Mark Dalbec of Superior, WI, Jeff and Lori Hasty of Farmington, MN, and Norman and Deb Hasty of Lakeville, MN; son-in-law, Cliff Knutsen of Hibbing, MN; eleven grandchildren: Deb (Chad) Reitmeier, Mike (Ali) Knutsen, John Hasty Jr., Elmer Hasty, Bryan Dalbec, Patrick Dalbec, David Dalbec, Tyler Stienkeoway, Amanda Stienkeoway, Mallory (Ben) Running, and Taylor Hasty; and seven great-grandchildren: Ethan and Alex Reitmeier, Ava, Gabriella, and Lucy Knutsen, Alexus Hasty, and Andrew Rask. She also leaves three sisters-in-law, Grace Hogenson of Crookston, MN, Georgia Hogenson of Wilsall, MT, and Sylvia Ditter of Minneapolis, MN; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Elmer, her beloved husband of 52 years, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Eloise "Ellie" Knutsen; her parents, John and Ida Hogenson; three sisters, Hazel Brouillet, Ardis Patterson, and Opal Hogenson; and three brothers: James, Roy, and Dennis "Ben" Hogenson. Blessed be the memory of Ilene Mae Hasty.
