Ingman E. Thoreson, Jr., age 86, Crookston, died Monday, March 17, 2014 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Ingman was born on April 17, 1927 at rural Climax, son of Ingman, Sr. and Emma (Eken) Thoreson. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He was united in marriage with Patricia "Pat" Ryan on June 12, 1947 at the Trinity Lutheran Church parsonage in Crookston by Pastor Haugen. The couple made their home on his parent's farm in Roome Township, rural Climax, until purchasing a farmstead in Tynsid Township, near Climax and moving there in 1950. They farmed in the Climax area until retiring in 1990 and moving into Crookston in October of 1997. Their farm was recognized as a Century Farm in 1976. He and Pat traveled in a motor home for a while and spent winters in Florida, Texas, California and Arizona and also took a couple of trips to Hawaii. Following the move to Crookston, Ingman received the first "Good Neighbor Award" for helping his neighbors by blowing snow out of driveways and off sidewalks. Ingman and Pat were faithful members of the Sand Hill Lutheran Church. His wife, Pat, died on November 19, 2012. Ingman is survived by his son: Tom (Jan) Thoreson of Moorhead, MN; daughter-in-law: Lynn (Paul) Strodtbeck of Grand Rapids, MI; five grandchildren: Wayne (Lisa) Thoreson of Climax, Shari (Greg) Wiersma of Allendale, MI, Mikell (Jennifer) Thoreson of Mayville, WI, Chad (Jennifer) Thoreson of West Fargo, ND and Lori (Scott) Rush of Grand Rapids, MI; nine great-grandchildren: Alexis, Logan, Garrett, Gabrielle, Hallie, Parker, Lily-an, Levi and Caden; siblings: Arlone Cymbaluk of Crookston, Delano (Janice) Thoreson of Climax, JoAnn (Gerald) Johnson of East Grand Forks; brother-in-law: Eddie Moser of Medina, ND; sister-in-law: Diane (Everett) Marshall of Thief River Falls; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ingman, Sr. and Emma; his wife of 65 years: Pat; a son: Gary, who died in 1971; a sister: Delores Smith Moser; a sister-in-law: Kay Askeland; brothers-in-law: Ed Askelund, Warren Smith and Marvin Cymbaluk; and a sister-in-law & brother-in-law: Gloria & Veril Hagen. May God richly bless the memory of Ingman Edward Thoreson, Jr. Ingman's funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Monday at Sand Hill Lutheran Church, rural Climax. Rev. Joy Grainger will officiate. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m., Sunday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., and also for one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Interment will be in the Sand Hill Lutheran Cemetery, rural Climax.
