James Mix, Sr

James E. Mix, Sr., known as Jim, age 55, of Crookston, died Friday, March 28, 2014 at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. Jim was born on February 9, 1959 at Belle Fourche, SD, son of Hubert and Nomia (Browning) Mix. The family moved around quite a bit from Wyoming to Minnesota, then on to Illinois and Mississippi. After attending Manteno High School, Jim worked with Clark Oil in Illinois, Iowa and Florida. Jim then moved to Crookston and was united in marriage to Nancy Hale in 1981. Unfortunately, Nancy passed away from diabetic complications in May of 1986, shortly after they had moved to Florida. Jim returned to Crookston in 1988 and was united in marriage to Kimberly Lopatowski on April 20, 1990. Jim worked at Hardee's, SuperAmerica, IC Muggs, and for the last ten years at Cenex in Fisher as the convenience store manager. Jim also enjoyed his two years as a Cub Scout Troop Leader. He is survived by his three daughters and a son: Kayse Mix, Amber (Michael) Kunstleben, Taylor Mix, and James Mix, Jr., all of Crookston, MN: three grandchildren: Cadin Rubischung, Alexis Ibarra and Janessa Ibarra; siblings: Bonnie (Reidus) Johnson of Minto, ND, Beverly (Eugene) Hudson of Shawneetown, IL, Tommy (Kathy) Mix of Crookston, MN, and Richard Mix of Rochester, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents: Hubert and Nomia Mix; a sister: Debra Ann (Mix) Thrasher and his first wife: Nancy. Jim's funeral will be held at 3 PM, Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, with the Rev. Jo Gast, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston. Stenshoel-Houske is assisting with arrangements.
