James Stainbrook

Jim Stainbrook, age 87, Crookston, died Monday, July 22, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Jim was born on January 3, 1926 in Crookston, MN, son of Frank and Angeline (Willette) Stainbrook. He grew up and attended school at Cathedral Grade School and High School. He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 and served in the South Pacific. He was united in marriage with Lorraine Roy on June 25, 1949 at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Crookston. They made their home in Crookston and Jim worked with Barlow Furniture for twenty-five years and then was part-owner of Crookston Paint and Glass with his brothers, Jerry and Roger, until his retirement in the late 1980's. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting and the cottage at Maple Lake. He also loved playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Eagles, the Elks and the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. He especially enjoyed morning coffee at Arby's with the "Sidewalk Superintendents". Jim is survived by his wife: Lorraine of Crookston; three children: David (Yvonne) Stainbrook of Greensboro, NC, Mary Kay (Greg) Dufault of Howard, SD and Rick (Deb) Stainbrook of Park Falls, WI; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; five siblings: Mary Tuseth of Crookston, Rosie Wolf of Coon Rapids, Karen "Cookie" (Glen) French of Loveland, CO, Ron (Pat) Stainbrook of Denver, CO, and Dennis Stainbrook of Crookston. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Frank and Angeline Stainbrook; five brothers: Jerry, Norman, Dale, John "Jack", and Roger Stainbrook; and a sister: Margaret Berglund. The Celebration of Jim's Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 27, 2013 at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Crookston, with the Very Rev. Vincent Miller, presiding and Deacon Dennis Bivens giving the homily. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM, Friday at the church with a prayer service at 7 PM, and also for one hour before the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Crookston Veterans Council. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Crookston.
