Jason Perala

August 22, 1981 — August 26, 2014

Jason Perala, 33, passed away unexpectedly and all too soon, on August 26, 2014 at his home in Fargo, North Dakota.

Jason was born on August 22, 1981 in Crookston, MN, to Warren and Cheryl Perala. They knew from an early age what an independent and fun spirit he was, which followed him throughout his childhood and adult life. Jason grew up in Crookston, and was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Crookston High School, where he was involved in baseball, football, and excelled in wrestling. Jason did so well, he took home 2nd place in the Minnesota State Wrestling Tournament. He also loved to deer hunt, go fishing on Minnesota's beautiful lakes, and spend time with his brothers David and Isaac. After high school, Jason attended North Dakota State University, where he majored in engineering and made many dear friends. After college, Jason spent some time living in Williston working at the oil rigs, and eventually returned to live in Crookston and spend time close to his family. On his last move back to Fargo, Jason was able to do what he loved, which was spend his time outdoors working in landscaping as well as concrete work. Jason was well known not just in Crookston, but in Fargo as well. He was known for being willing to "give his shirt off his back to anyone, even in the middle of winter". Jason was especially drawn to children, evidence of his fun personality and big heart. Everybody who encountered Jason experienced his kind, giving, and hard-working spirit. Because of that, Jason was loved by all. Jason is preceded in death by his grandparents, Toivo and Arlene Perala; and great-grandparents, Milton and Dorothy Helgeson, and Clarence and Evelyn Ulseth. Jason is survived by his parents, Warren and Cheryl Perala of Crookston, MN; brother David and sister-in-law Samantha Perala of Crookston; brother Isaac Perala of Grand Forks, ND; grandparents Roger and Donna Ulseth of Crookston; aunts and uncles: Pam Grove of Climax, MN, Marc and Rose Ulseth of Crookston, Kathy Ulseth-Tenold of Fargo, Martene Olson of San Jose, California, Carolyn Hultquist of Owatonna, MN, and Shelden and Cheryl Perala of Boise, Idaho; nieces and nephews Christopher, Angelica, Jasmine, Lucas, Gabrielle, and Natalie Perala; and many close cousins. There will be a memorial service celebrating the life of Jason Perala on Thursday, September 4th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston, MN at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Jo Gast officiating. A time to greet Jason's family will be one hour prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Crookston Youth Wrestling Association.
