Jay Allen Wise, age 81, passed away on September 26, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, at Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, MN.
Jay Wise was born on December 15, 1940, in Crookston, MN, to Arthur and Sophie (Benson) Wise. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. Jay grew up in Crookston and attended Franklin Elementary School. He graduated from Crookston High School with the class of 1958. Jay’s work experience began as a Minneapolis Tribune paper boy, which was also when he developed his nearly lifetime habit of having breakfast at Widman’s Candy Shop. He worked for Crookston Electric Motor and Marine before joining the Navy in 1958. Jay served on the USS Assurance until his honorable discharge in April of 1962.
Jay married Rose Marie Barsaloux at St. Anne Catholic Church in Crookston, MN, on November 24, 1962. They lived in Eldred, MN, and Jay worked as the parts manager at Salem Motors from 1963-1978, and at Hugos from 1980-2005. Jay was a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. Jay and Rose Marie moved to Crookston in 2018.
Jay enjoyed woodworking, collecting baseball cards and fishing when he had time. He spent many satisfying hours landscaping, mowing, and caring for his property. He enjoyed watching his Minnesota teams play, attending his children’s, then grandchildren’s, activities.
Jay is survived by his loving wife Rose Marie of Crookston; children: Michelle (Brad) Asselin of Houston, TX; Mark (Amie) Wise of Kansas City, MO; Paula (Bill) Leake of Grand Forks, ND; Kevin (Carrie) Wise of Rochester, MN; Jason (Holly) Wise of Maple Grove, MN; Chris (Kristin) Wise of East Grand Forks, MN; grandchildren: Rachel Asselin, Jacob Asselin, Ben Wise, Megan Wise, Morgen Pace, Lindsay (Kasen) Christiansen, Matthew Leake, Brett Leake, Carter Leake, Jenna Wise, Ethan Wise, Cassidy Wise, Brady Wise; brother Jerry (Candy) Wise of Crookston, MN; sister Debi Hohman of Ada, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Mark Hohman, father-in-law Ray Barsaloux, and mother-in-law Henrietta Barsaloux.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, 2022, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston with Msgr. David Baumgartner presiding. Visitation with the family will be at the Church for one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be at a later date.
