Jeanne Kreibich

August 18, 1924 — May 27, 2012

Jeanne Elizabeth Kreibich, 87, of Crookston, MN, slept away peacefully early Sunday morning, May 27, 2012, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston. Jeanne's strength and health had been in decline for many months and her last hours were spent with her loving family, comforted by her faith and looking forward to being reunited with her beloved husband, Jerry. Jeanne was born at Harmony, MN on August 18, 1924, and was one of four children of the union of Clarence "Claude" and Carmen (Hild) Barlow. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and spent her early years growing up in Harmony. After her freshman year of high school there she moved with her family to Arcadia, WI, and attended Arcadia High School through her junior year. In 1941 the family moved to Crookston, where her father established Barlow Furniture and Appliance. Jeanne spent her senior year attending Crookston's Central High School, making many new friends and graduating with the Class of 1942. On June 2, 1943 she was united in marriage to Gerald G. Kreibich at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. Jerry was employed by his father-in-law at Barlow Furniture and Jeanne led the busy life of a wife and homemaker. She remained at home while Jerry left in March of 1945 to serve with the Army Air Corps. After his return in 1946 he resumed his employment at Barlow's, while at the same time enlisting in the Minnesota National Guard. The family soon grew to include son, Dennis, born later that year. In 1950 Jerry was called to active duty with the Guard and stationed at Camp Rucker, AL. Jeanne and Denny were able to join him there, and while in Alabama they were blessed by the birth of their daughter, Debbie. The family returned to Crookston in December, 1952, and soon after, Jeanne and Jerry purchased Barlow Furniture. In 1973 they retired and passed the business on to the next generation of family. For over forty years they enjoyed spending summers at their beautiful home on Maple Lake, near Mentor, MN, and winters from 1980 to 1995 at their Marco Island, FL condo. Jeanne and Jerry were active members of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston, and the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Mentor, and she also belonged to a church circle. Additionally, she was a past-president of the Women's League at Minakwa Country Club in Crookston, and had held membership in the Matron's Club. Throughout the years Jeanne and Jerry enjoyed world-wide travel, membership in the Gourmet Club, going dancing, playing cards, and spending time in the sun and on the water. Jeanne was a "social butterfly" and her smile could light up a room. She and Jerry loved entertaining, and their home was a favorite gathering spot for family and friends alike. They moved to the Summerfield Apartments in Crookston in 2004, and Jerry passed away on January 1, 2010. His loss, after sixty-six wonderful years of marriage and devotion to each other, was very hard for Jeanne, but she vowed to face her new life with courage and determination. She was always at the center of her family, and in the time since Jerry's death had proudly welcomed two new great-grandbabies into their circle. Her family truly kept her young at heart. Jeanne was humble and kind; a beloved role model, and good friend to many. She was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she embraced these roles as her calling in life. Jeanne leaves to forever cherish her memory a son and daughter-in-law, Denny and Mary Jo Kreibich of Crookston, MN; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Jerry Hasbrouck of Crookston; 5 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren: Todd and Allison Kreibich of Gilbert, MN and their children, Hannah, Keegan, Camden, and Jaxon; Denise and Matt Truso of Chaska, MN and their son, TJ; Carmen and Paul Johnson of Little Falls, MN and their children, Landon, Hayden, Coltin, and Isabella; Tiffany and Eric Schmidt of Carbondale, IL and their daughter, Kennedy; and Justin Hasbrouck of Minneapolis, MN. Jeanne is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her beloved husband, Jerry, she is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Carmen Barlow; brother, Neil Barlow; and sisters, Faye Bautsch and Molly Leman. May God richly bless Jeanne's memory.
