John Elroy Stave, age 84, of Crookston, MN, died Monday afternoon, February 2, 2015, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. John was born at Lengby, MN on May 13, 1930, the son of John C. and Hazel I. (Larson) Stave. He grew up in there and attended the Lengby School. As a young man, John moved to St. Paul, MN, where he was employed as a custodian at a local nursing home. He later met a young lady, Sharon Lee Kerr, and the two were united in marriage at St. Paul on May 20, 1974. In 1986 John and Sharon moved to Crookston where John was employed as caretaker of the Smith Building, located in downtown Crookston. They relocated to Minneapolis a few years later and then returned to Crookston in 1992. Sharon was courageously battling ill health and John devoted himself to her care. Sadly, she passed away on November 10, 2002. John was an avid bingo player, and was often joined by his good friend, Sharon Rausch. He also enjoyed playing poker with friends at Oak Court, where he had been living for several years. John will be sadly missed by his brothers, sister, nieces, and nephews. Loving family members include 4 brothers: Marvin and Verna Stave of Davenport, IA, Floyd and Jean Stave, and Milton Stave of Crookston, MN, and Curtis Stave of West St. Paul, MN; a sister, Janice Stave of Inver Grove Heights, MN; his friend, Sharon Rausch of Blaine, MN; an aunt, Vera Evenmoe of Whitetail, MT; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to Sharon, his beloved wife of 28 years, John was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Shawna Lynn; his parents; and brothers: Lowell, Larry, and Sidney. May God bless the memory of John E. Stave. A memorial service for John Stave will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 9, 2015, at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston with The Rev.
