Jon William Perry

Jon Perry was called to his heavenly home December 7. Jon was born on March 2, 1937 to

Charles and Clarice (Thompson) Perry in Crookston. Joining a family of sisters, Carol (Richard) DuCharme, 

Carolyn Perry, Patricia (Aurel) Ekvall, and Jana (Del Wall) John Capp. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He graduated from Crookston High School in 1955. 

Marlys Hackett became Jon’s wife January 5, 1957. They lived on the Perry farm in Andover Township for the most of the 67 years of their marriage. They were blessed with 5 children; daughter Debra (Lonn) Kiel, and sons; Jon Jr. (Penny), Charles (Julie), Robert (Beth), and James (Patty) Perry.

Jon was known as a quiet, warm, caring farmer who loved his family and community. He loved music and therefore, was often heard whistling around the farm. He played trumpet in his youth and enjoyed singing in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church choir from his 9th grade year until he was unable to climb the stairs to the choir loft. Jon served on the Board of Trustees and greatly supported the Lutheran day school, which he considered an important mission for the children in the area. 

Jon also served on the Crookston Grain Board, Agra-Boosters, Farm Bureau, and supported the FFA.

Jon is survived by his wife, four of his children, 19 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Verna Gatheridge, a brother-in-law Mylan Hackett, and many nieces and nephews. 

Jon was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and brothers-in-law, Karen (Hackett) and Larry Corbin; son Jon Jr., daughter-in-law Beth Perry, granddaughter Leah, and great grandson Loki.

A prayer service will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Crookston, at 7:00 PM. Visitation with the family will be held two hours prior to the service. The funeral service will be held the following day at Our Saviors on Friday, December 20, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with visitation held one-hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Our Saviors Lutheran School; Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the Villa Foundation.
