Joye Marie Thompson, 79, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, January 19, 2022, in RiverView Health with her loving husband, Arvid, at her side.
Joye was born in Crookston on June 1, 1942, the daughter of Albert and Florence (Lend) Stengrim. She grew up on the family’s farm near Stephen, MN and graduated from Stephen High School. After attending business college in Thief River Falls, Joye worked as a teller at the Peoples State Bank in Warren, MN for 10 years. She was united in marriage to Arvid E. Thompson on June 6, 1970 in the Covenant Church in Stephen. The couple made their home in Crookston and Joye soon began working in the office of the Dahlgren Sunflower Company. She later became a teller at the Crookston National Bank, working for then President Donald Lawler. Customers to the Bank always knew they would be welcomed by her warm smile and friendly greeting. After twenty-five years of dedication to her position Joye looked forward to retirement in 1999 because it meant she had more time to spend with Arvid and the opportunity for them to go dancing whenever they wanted to.
Joye lived a life of service to others, whether it was through her devotion to Arvid, the bank’s clientele, or as importantly to her Church. Joye and Arvid were members of the Evangelical Covenant Church, today known as Harvest Church, since they first settled in Crookston. They could be found in ‘their pew’ every Sunday morning, and she was just as equally devoted to the good works of the Covenant Women’s organization. Joye loved being in her home, spending quiet days and peaceful evenings with Arvid, her soulmate of 51 years, and with her pet dogs whose company and comfort she enjoyed for many years as well. Joye will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Joye is survived by her beloved, Arvid; brother, Dean Stengrim of Stephen, MN; and from Arvid’s side of the family her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Glen and Lois Thompson of Crookston, Muriel and Skip Baukel of Fargo, ND, and Janis Thompson of Caledonia, ND; together with several nieces, nephews, and friends. Joye was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Florence Stengrim; adopted brother, Dennis Stengrim; parents-in-law, Engebret and Alma Thompson; and brothers-in-law: Wallace, Edwin, Elmer, and Duane Thompson. May God richly bless the memory of Joye Marie Thompson.
The funeral service for Joye Marie Thompson will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, June 16, 2022, at the Harvest Church in Crookston, MN with Pastor David Finsaas, officiating.
