June Fortier was born June 29, 1923, daughter of the late Earl and Adrianna Chambers, in Roome Township. She was raised in Crookston and graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1941. On May 17, 1941 June was united in marriage to Andrew Fortier at St. Anne's Church in Crookston, MN. The couple lived in Bremerton, WA from 1942 to 1945. They returned to Crookston for a short time, and then lived in Fertile from 1947 to 1949 before returning once again to Crookston. June worked at Highway Lunch as a waitress and cook for several years, then worked and trained under Dr. C.D. Mitchell starting in 1959. Upon Dr. Mitchell's retirement, she returned to school and received her Dental Assistant License in 1973. She then worked for Dr. G. E. Thomas at the Red River Valley Dental Building for 12 years until she retired in 1985. She enjoyed retirement by traveling to England, Ireland, other European countries, Hong Kong and many U.S. states including Alaska . June was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception St. Joseph's Club, volunteered for Meals on Wheels, the Cathedral church office and also worked as a City of Crookston Election Judge. June is survived by her loving children James (Elaine) of Pittsburgh, PA, Eileen Bushie of Crookston, MN and Marilyn (Eric) Houston of Shiloh, GA and brother, Dale Chambers of Rochester, MN. She loved and enjoyed her family which included 9 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. June is preceded in death by her husband Andrew, brothers Floyd and William and sisters Lola and Irene.
