June E. Shaver, 94, of Crookston, MN, died peacefully Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at her Summit Apartment in the Villa St. Vincent. June was born on June 10, 1920 at St. Paul, MN, the daughter of Willis H. and Harriet (Ridley) Shaver. Her early years were spent at Gladstone, MN where she attended school through the 8th grade. She and her family then moved back to St. Paul, and June graduated from Johnson High School in 1938. After studying business and accounting at Globe Business College in St. Paul, she was employed in the offices of the American Linen Company in St. Paul. In 1949 June moved to Crookston and in 1953 became the Clinic Administrator for Northwestern Clinic. During the 1970's she completed a course of study at the University of Minnesota-Crookston and earned an Associate Degree in Business. June continued in her position at Northwestern Clinic until her retirement in 1983. June was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston and served as treasurer of the church for over 25 years. Professionally, she was a past-president of the State Clinic Managers Association, and was the first treasurer of the National Medical Group Management Association. As an active member of the Crookston community, she held memberships in the Lions Club, the local chapter of Business and Professional Women; served on the Crookston Planning Committee for 9 years; and was recipient of the RiverView Hospital Association's "Reaching Out to Serve Award." The University of Minnesota-Crookston was a big part of June's life, and she was honored to receive the University's prestigious Torch and Shield award. She was an avid fan and supporter of UMC athletics and was not only the first recipient of the UMC Teambacker Award, but the first to ever receive a Teambacker lifetime pass. Several years ago she established the Shaver Butterfly Garden at the University in honor of her family, and it has become a popular spot for visitors to stroll by. June had visited the Garden with her good friend, Jerry Knutson, just a few days before her passing. In her younger days (but not all that many years ago) she enjoyed skiing, golf, and traveling. As her eyesight began to fail, June relied more and more on the assistance of another very dear friend, Annette Hegg, to help her conduct her business and get to places she needed to be. June was a kind, generous, and very special person, not afraid to speak her mind if she thought it called for. She was a revered member of the community who will be remembered as one of its treasures. June leaves 2 sisters-in-law, Elaine Shaver of KY and Marjorie Shaver of St. Paul, MN; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis and Harriet Shaver; sisters, Betty Mastio and Mary Lewis; and brothers, Donald and Thomas Shaver. May God bless the memory of June E. Shaver. A memorial service celebrating the life of June Shaver will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the First Presbyterian Church in Crookston, with The Rev. Darrel Cory, officiating. Visitation will be at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home on Friday from 5-7PM, with a 7PM prayer service, and also at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Inurnment will take place in the church's columbarium. The Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home is assisting with funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers June's own wish was that memorials be given to the UMC Foundation. Online registry:
