Kay Goosen

November 11, 1942 — November 5, 2013

Kay Ardell Goosen, age 70, of rural Thompson, ND, passed away peacefully at her home early Tuesday morning, November 5, 2013, with her husband, Boyd, and daughter, Shelly, at her side. She had been battling cancer with great grace and courage for the past 2 years. Kay was born at Crookston, MN on November 11, 1942, one of 5 children of the union of Lloyd and Hazel (Steinbrink) Hoiseth. She grew up on the family farm northwest of town, attended Crookston schools, and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1960. While in her senior year of high school Kay began working for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Crookston as a cord board operator. During her 42-year career with the company she spent 12 of those years traveling back and forth to Fargo, ND. Kay retired from the company, known as Century Link, in 2000. On April 29, 1961 she was united in marriage to Boyd Dale Goosen in a ceremony that took place at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Crookston. Their marriage was blessed by the birth of a daughter, Rachelle. Crookston was home to the family until moving to Grand Forks in 1982. In 1999 Kay and Boyd moved to their new home near Thompson. They were members of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in East Grand Forks. Throughout her life Kay enjoyed flower gardening and visiting area nurseries choosing which flowers to plant. Decorating her home was another of her passions. Favorite pastimes also included reading magazines and looking at catalogs, and pursuing hobbies that included collecting dolls and cookbooks. Foremost in Kay's life was her Christian faith, and her deep and abiding love for her family. Kay will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by her beloved husband of 52 years, Boyd; their daughter and son-in-law, Rachelle (Shelly) and Doug Wahlberg of Blaine, MN; grandchildren, Nolan Boyd Wahlberg and Madison Kay Wahlberg; sister, Marian Bakken, brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Carol Hoiseth, and sister-in-law, Diane Hoiseth, all of Crookston; an uncle, Gilbert Weber of Crookston; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Linda Goosen of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Hazel Hoiseth; brother, Jerry, who died on August 9, 2013; sister, Linda, who died at the age of 5; a brother-in-law, George Bakken; her parents-in-law, Ben and Lois Goosen; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mavis and Fritz Hoefs. May God richly bless the memory of Kay Ardell Goosen.
