Laurice Holtz

March 4, 1928 — July 24, 2014

Laurice Ann Holtz, 86, of Crookston, MN, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, July 24, 2014, at the Villa St. Vincent in Crookston, with her family at her side. Laurie, as she was affectionately known, was born on March 4, 1928 at Eldred, MN, the daughter of Henry and Irene (Wachter) Jobe. She grew up in Eldred with her 3 sisters and 2 brothers, was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith, and attended the Eldred Consolidated School and Climax High School. It was while keeping score for baseball games in Eldred that she met a handsome young man named "Bunny." On March 4, 1947 Laurice Ann Jobe and Charlton "Bunny" Holtz were united in marriage at Eldred. Bunny would later say Laurie married him so she wouldn't have to record so many of his errors. But she didn't go along with that at all, actually giving him more! The couple made their home in Crookston where they lovingly raised their daughter, Jaclynn, known best as "Jackie". Through the years Laurie was employed at the New York Store, Lincoln Elementary School, and the Polk County Auditor's Office. She retired in 1997, after serving for many years as Administrative Assistant for the NW Regional Correctional Center. Retirement meant having even more time to spend with their best friends, Jackie and her husband, Arne. Sadly, Bunny passed away in 2003. Laurie was a devoted member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and taught Sunday school there for 9 years. She was also a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, and loved quilting, evidenced by her memberships in the Fargo and Grand Forks Quilters Guilds, and the Log Cabin and Headwaters Quilters Guilds in Bemidji. Laurie was a diehard Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, rarely missing a game on television. She loved talking about Twins and Vikings with her Grandson, Eric.

Some may remember her demo-ing goodies for Hugo's Grocery Store in Crookston. Laurie moved to Bemidji in 2007 to do "kid sitting" for her great-granddaughters, Amanda and Emily, who were the loves of her life. She shared many suppers and much fun with Missy and her husband Steve. She returned to Crookston in 2012 and became a resident of the Summit. Laurie leaves her daughter, Jackie Roseland of Crookston, MN; 2 grandchildren, Melissa "Missy" and Steve Barrus of Crookston, and Eric Roseland of New Hope, MN; 2 great-granddaughters, Amanda and Emily Barrus; 3 sisters: Maxine Wagner and LaVonne Hinkley of Crookston, and Joyce Zahler of Monticello, MN; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Jobe of Crookston; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition to Bunny, her husband of 56 years, she was preceded in death by her beloved son-in-law, Arne Roseland, who passed away in 2009; her parents; brothers, Eldo and Arlyn Jobe; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Alvin Wagner, Richard Zahler, Newman Hinkley, and Emily Jobe. May God richly bless Laurie's memory. The funeral service celebrating the life of Laurice Ann Holtz will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2014, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Steve Bohler, officiating. Visitation will be at the church for one hour prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston.
