Lee Edward Schafer was born on November 4, 1926 to his beloved parents Leo and Reona. Lee was named after his father, Leo, and his grandfather, Reinder Edward Werkman. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 1, 2015 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston. Lee graduated from Crookston High School in 1944, served in the army of the United States of America in World War II, and after honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis in 1949. He later attended and taught at the University of Denver graduating with a Master's Degree in business administration in 1960. Over a period of many years, Lee enjoyed an exciting career in the hospitality industry engaged in the capacity of either senior executive or consultant for luxury hotels, gourmet restaurants, domestic and foreign airlines, passenger steam ships, as well as hospitals, universities, colleges, schools, and construction camps. This work provided the necessity, and opportunity, to enjoy extensive domestic and foreign travel. In 1999, Lee returned to his boyhood home in Crookston where he enjoyed maintaining his family home of 100 years and pursuing his love of gardening. Lee believed that the Bible alone and in its entirety is the infallible and divinely inspired Word of God, that all mankind is accountable for their sins against a Holy Creator God, and that there is salvation alone through the Grace of our Soverign Loving Heavenly Father and His sacrifice on the cross by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the last decade of his life, Lee was associated with and a member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church which adheres to the Reformed faith of the great Puritan theologians of past centuries. At death he was a member of Grace Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Fargo, North Dakota, a fellowship of like-minded believers which brought great joy into his life. Lee is survived by his friend and companion of 40 years, his past business partner and brother in Christ, Howard Williams. He is also survived by his beloved sister, Carol Jean Fay, and her two daughters, Cindy Lee Arnich and Susan Carol Johnson. Because of his compassionate love of God and country, he has elected to close his obituary with the following Scripture: "Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and the people whom He hath chosen for His own inheritance."
