LeRoy Clemenson

October 24, 1947 — April 28, 2018

LeRoy Edwin Clemenson, 70, of Crookston, MN, passed away at his home early Saturday morning, April 28, 2018, of natural causes. LeRoy was born in Moorhead, MN on October 24, 1947 to Edwin Alfred and Lillian Clarice (Thompson) Clemenson. He was later raised by Andy and Darlaine (Tollefson) Clemenson, who he considered to be his second Dad and Mom. LeRoy attended elementary school in Horace before  moving to Crookston. He graduated from Crookston Central High School in 1966, and briefly attended the University of Minnesota Technical College. He began his career working for the Crookston factory of American Crystal Sugar Company on September 14, 1968. On February 2, 1970, he married Cindy Jo Smith in Crookston and they were blessed by the births of two children, Jason Lee and Jodi Lynn. On December 28, 1973 Darlaine passed away. On May 9, 1975 Andy married Joan (Grove) Erickson in Crookston. Andy passed away on May 19, 2003. LeRoy continued working at American Crystal, and on June 6, 2008 was united in marriage to Joni Lynn (Spangler) Erickson in Crookston. Lillian passed away on April 28, 2010. Very sadly, LeRoy’s son, Jason, died on January 24, 2011. Edwin passed away on July 8, 2011 and Joan passed on January 3, 2012. After over forty-four years of dedicated service, LeRoy retired as yard coordinator of American Crystal on November 1, 2012. After retirement, he worked for the Crookston Daily Times, was a park ranger for the City of Crookston, and an attendant at Fisher’s Landing.

LeRoy was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles Aerie #873, and Crookston American Legion Post #20. He enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, and playing cards. He was also a fan of western movies, going to concerts, collecting antiques, and playing the lottery. You would never see LeRoy without a 20 oz. Pepsi in his hand, or chewing Trident Tropical Fruit gum. LeRoy was a devoted husband, dad, grandfather, and brother, who will be very lovingly remembered and sadly missed.

LeRoy is survived by his beloved wife, Joni; a daughter, Jodi Enlow and her husband, Will, of Crookston, MN; 6 grandchildren: Brooke Clemenson (Dustin Schwebach) of St. Cloud, MN, Megan Pierson (Brady Johnson) of Fargo, ND, Anna Enlow and Casey Enlow of Crookston, Nick Pederson of Chaska, MN, and    Ben Pederson of Crookston; step-children, Justin and Kristen Erickson and their son, Mason, of Climax, MN, and Rachel Erickson (Allen Arnold) of Wausau, WI. He also leaves 13 siblings: Sandra (Ron) Selzer of Wyndmere, ND, Judith (Jerry) Staab of Moorhead, MN, Debra (Allen) Berg of Fargo, Susan (Gene) Zachgo of Fargo, Dawn Roline of Bemidji, MN, Kathy Bailey of Bismarck, ND, Linda (Craig) Davidson of Moorhead, Verla (Paul) Hennings of Fargo, Terry (Leanne) Clemenson of Lakewood, CO, Bryan (Kim) Clemenson of Manchester, England, Ellert Clemenson of Porterville, CA, Twyla (Richard) Fomasi of Drummond, ID, and Tammy (Bruce) Kivley of Fargo, ND; and Joan’s 5 children: Bonita (Mike) Rakoczy of Northwood,, ND, Todd (Carol) Erickson of Sydney, MT, Michael Erickson of Germany, Stephen (Barb) Erickson of Crookston, and Kristi (Craig) Parker of Belgrade, MT; as well as, aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and friends. In addition to his son, Jason, and his parents; he was preceded in death by his sister, LaVonne Clemenson; brother, Larry Clemenson; infant brother, Gary; and former wife, Cindy Jo LaFleur. May God bless LeRoy’s memory.

The funeral service for LeRoy Edwin Clemenson will be held at 2:00pm, Monday, May 7, 2018, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crookston with The Rev. Greg Isaacson, officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1-2PM that day. Interment will take place in the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
