Lile Hernandez, 68, of Crookston, MN, passed away early Wednesday morning, October 10, 2012, at her home surrounded by family. Lile was born to Jesus and Juanita Hernandez in Cotulla, TX on May 2, 1944. Lile and her family lived in Cotulla until 1967, when they moved to Kenosha, WI to pursue employment. When Lile was twenty-four, she met Guadalupe Hernandez, and the two were united in marriage July 28, 1968 in Milwaukee, WI. Sadly, Guadalupe passed away April 25, 2012. The two made their home in Milwaukee and together raised five children there; Genoveva, Norma, Gloria, Guadalupe Jr., and Gilberto. In 1979, Guadalupe and Lile moved to Crookston, MN, where they were blessed with the birth of their son, Felipe. Lile stayed at home and raised their children until 1991, when she became employed at Phoenix Industries in Crookston. Six years later, she was hired at New Flyer and remained there until her cancer diagnosis in 2001.
Lile was a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston. She enjoyed singing and listening to gospel music, cooking, gardening, shopping, traveling, and camping with the family. She especially enjoyed watching her children's' and grandchildren's' boxing matches and watching Guadalupe coach them. She also spent time keeping connected with her brothers and sisters through frequent telephone calls. May God richly bless Lile's memory. Lile will be sadly missed by her children; Genoveva "Jenny" Morton, Norma (Gerald) Pride, Gloria (Robert) DeLaCruz, Guadalupe Hernandez Jr., Gilberto Hernandez (Carmen Rodriguez), and Felipe (Jessica) Hernandez, all of Crookston. Also missing Lile will be her fifteen grandchildren, Anthony Allen Morton, Jr., Christopher Michael Morton, Andru Payton Hill, Andy Allen Shafer, Randy Juan Shafer, Lydia Lile Shafer, Guadalupe Hernandez III, Miguel Angel Hernandez, Selena Hernandez, Esperansa Hernandez, Jesus Hernandez, Isabella Hernandez, Mickaela Renwick, Felipe Hernandez, Jr., and Heaven Hernandez; two sisters, Jesusa Ocana of Milwaukee, WI and Maria Adela Flores of Chicago, IL; one brother, Juan A. Hernandez of Kenosha, WI; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. In addition to her beloved husband, Lile was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Alfredo, Ole, Jesus, Selverdo, and Willy Hernandez; and two sisters, Caroline Rodriguez and Sulema Rios.
