Linda L. Lemka, age 62, Crookston, MN, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the Hope Center with her husband, Carl, at her side.
Linda Lou was born on May 10, 1952 in Hammond, Indiana, the daughter of Howard and Marion (Wheeler) Lendabarker. She grew up in Calumet City, Illinois and graduated from high school there. Linda drove long haul over-the-road as a cattle hauler for twenty years. She then attended Kaplan Community College in Highland, Indiana and worked as an LPN with Dr. Ramani, traveling and providing hospice care. She later worked at a pediatric clinic associated with Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary, Indiana. She was united in marriage to Carl Lemka on June 27, 1986 in Highland, Indiana. On their fifteenth anniversary the couple recommitted themselves in a church ceremony. Carl and Linda moved from the Calumet City/Chicago area just over three years ago to Billings, Montana, and then to Crookston, Minnesota. Linda enjoyed time spent with her family; playing with the grandkids, camping and motorcycle riding. She liked to take an occasional horseback ride and care for animals. She even had a raccoon named Rocky as a pet for four years. Linda's favorite pastimes included baking, flower gardening, and crocheting. Survivors include her beloved husband of twenty-eight years, Carl; her children: Dan (Theda) Quinn of Wheatfield, IN, Denise (John) Mack of Merrillville, IN, Lisa VanNorman of Hammond, IN, James VanNorman of Hammond, IN, Amy Jo Williams of Independence, MO; her adopted children: Jeremy Slowinski of Oak Grove, MO, Miles Livingston of Wheatfield, IN, BobbiJo Novak of Saukvillage, IL, and Justin Lemka of Lee's Summit, MO; nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; her father, Howard Lendabarker of Eads, TN; three siblings: Pat Lendabarker of Eads, TN, Mark (Stephanie) Lendabarker of Lake Village, IN; and Mary (Scott) Cokeing of Eads, TN. She was preceded in death by her mother, Marion. Linda's memorial service will be at 1 PM, Monday, June 30, 2014 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston, with Deacon Dan Hannig, officiating. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.
