Lois Jeanette Grove, 85, formerly of Crookston, passed away June 1, 2015 at St. Therese of New Hope, MN where she had lived the past 2 1/2 years. She was the 3rd child of 11 born to John and Inga (Teigen) Pederson on Nov. 14, 1929 in Crookston. She graduated in 1947 from Crookston Central as well as Fargo Business School and was employed for nearly 3 decades as Deputy City Clerk of Crookston. Lois was married to Myron (Mike) Grove and had one daughter, and one granddaughter. Her loving husband for 45 years sadly passed away in Oct., 2004.
She was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, Mike and Lois traveled extensively and wintered in Pharr, TX for more than 20 years. She rode an elephant, camel, and in an Ostrich pulled cart.
She was a strong, independent woman, a champion of the underdog, and an early advocate of women's rights, winning an equal work/equal pay settlement before retiring. Ironically the pay raise went to her successor, a male. She loved playing cards, gardening, and was a fan of Elvis and an excellent dog trainer. Family and friends were very important to her and she always stayed in contact with cards, calls, and e-mails. Preceded in death by parents; husband; brothers, Howard, David, and Edgar Pederson; sister, Audrey Strom; brothers in law: Obert Morvig, Wally Strom, Vernon and Kenny Grove; and sister in law Edna Pederson. Lois is survived by daughter, Jackie (Tom) Holvik of St. Michael; granddaughter, Kari Holvik of Rogers; sisters, Vernice (Leonard) Mienert, Carol (Paul) Sykes; brothers, Dan Pederson, Gerald (Elizabeth) Pederson, Joel (Betty) Pederson, Mike (Iris) Ophus; sisters in law, LaRayne Morvig, Carol (Bob) Cauouette, Mary Grove, Merry Ann (Dave) Macierzynski, Mickey and Helen Pederson. Her family is grateful for the excellent, caring staff at St. Therese of New Hope.
A memorial service will be 2:00pm, Thursday June 11 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Oakdale Cemetery in Crookston. Arrangements by Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home in Crookston
