Lorraine Olson

Lorraine Bernice Olson, 64, of Crookston, MN, died unexpectedly at her residence Sunday, December 14, 2014. Lorraine was born at Crookston on November 4, 1950, and was one of eight children of the union of John and Alice (Fries) Gruhot. She grew up at Crookston, was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1968.For several years Lorraine was employed as a nurses' aide at the Riverview Hospital. After her marriage to Virgil Olson at Crookston, the couple moved to Illinois. In 1979 a son, Reese, was born to them, but sadly died when just two-weeks old. Life was later blessed by the births of daughters, Darcy and Tamara. After a few years, Lorraine and the girls returned to Crookston, where for a time she sold Avon products. Lorraine enjoyed collecting dolls, and cooking and baking for her family. She was also a very talented seamstress and sewed many dresses and outfits for her girls as they were growing up. Lorraine was dedicated to her family, and her love for her daughters and grandchildren, and the tenderness by which she nurtured them all, was reflected back by them just as intensely. They will remember her with pride, joy, and tears, while comforted in knowing that she is at peace. Family members include Lorraine's daughters: Darcy Litzinger and her husband, Steve, of Kindred, ND, and Tamara Addai of Crookston, MN; three grandchildren, Riley Olson-Austreng, and Destiny and Devon Addai; and Darcy and Steve's pets who Lorraine affectionately called her "furry grandkids"- Piper, Faith, Mocha, and Pink. Lorraine also leaves her mother, Alice Gruhot of Crookston; brothers and sisters: JoAnn (Duane) Berger of Crookston, Diane (Mike) Laniel of Minneapolis, Raymond Gruhot of Lakeville, MN, Angela Thaemert of Crookston, and Betty (Curt) Jensrud of Farmington, MN; a sister-in-law, Monica Gruhot of Crookston; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her father, John Gruhot; infant son, Reese; brother, Michael Gruhot; sister, Maryann Reep, and her husband, Phil; great-nephew, Morgan; her grandparents; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. A memorial mass for Lorraine Olson will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 19, 2014, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Crookston.
