Luverne E. Hviding, age 79, Crookston, died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Villa St. Vincent, Crookston, with her family at her side.
Luverne Ethel Hviding was born on February 28, 1934 in her home east of Borup, Minnesota, daughter of Anton and Ella Dahl. She grew up and was educated at Golden Rod Country School and Borup High School. She graduated in May 1951. On June 26, 1954 she married Kenneth Reuben Hviding. She joined Ken through his Army years living at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, Fort Knox, Kentucky, and Fort Hood, Texas. Following two years in Lichfield, North Dakota, they moved to Crookston, Minnesota where she spent the rest of her life. As a housewife and mother, Luverne spent the early years of her marriage raising her four children. In later years, she spread her wings through many hours employed at Dalhgren's. She and Ken enjoyed many days together as volunteers at the Polk County Historical Society and the Rydell National Wildlife Refuge. Along with her family, she spent many years enjoying the Hviding family farm south of Mentor, Minnesota. Throughout her life she was actively involved in the Crookston Covenant Church. There she served as organist and accompanist, Sunday School teacher and was actively involved with the ministries of Covenant Women. Through these roles friends came to know and cherish her quiet and gentle spirit and her steady consistent faith in God. While Luverne also enjoyed cooking, sewing, knitting, and Suduko, her greatest joys came from quiet reading, holding a new born baby, and spending time with the family she loved. Luverne is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth of Crookston; Two brothers and one sister: Allen (Naomi) Dahl of Borup; Jerry (Jewel) Dahl of Felton; Elaine (Paul) Gustafson of Rochester; Sister in law: Doris Dahl of Borup; Children: Randy Hviding of Crookston; Brenda (Mark) Schibilla of Blaine; Arlen (Bonnie) Hviding of Lino Lakes; Merlin (Wendy) Hviding of Mora; Grandchildren: Jennifer Schibilla, Andrew Schibilla, Tyler Hviding, Kevin Hviding, Jordon Hviding, Rebecca Hviding, Riley Hviding and Emily Hviding; and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
