Mabel Inger Wollin, age 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 26, 2013, at her home in Eldred, Minnesota, of natural causes. Mabel was born on January 6, 1921, in Bagley, Minnesota, to Anton and Emelia (Nelson) Thoreson. She was raised and attended school in Rindal, Minnesota. As a young woman, she moved to the Eldred/Climax area to be near her sister, working as hired help on a number of local farms. She met and married Loren Wollin in 1941 while he was serving in the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Snelling. After Loren's overseas service and discharge in 1946, they returned to Eldred. Mabel and Loren worked and farmed in the area for the next forty years. In addition, they ran the Eldred Post Office from 1970 until its closing in 1981. Mabel took great pride in setting up and running her own business where she worked for local residents painting, wood staining, refinishing, and wallpapering their homes. She derived much satisfaction from a job well done. She was active in the community, and a lifetime member of the First English Lutheran Church of Eldred. Mabel belonged to the Ladies Aid, Homemakers, and was a fifty-year member of the Crookston VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Mabel and Loren travelled the western states, spending many winters in Yuma, Arizona. Besides sightseeing, they enjoyed cards, board games, and Yahtzee. Mabel especially relished the challenge of golfing with her friends. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Gerald) Gunstinson of Santa Barbara, CA and Lynn (Gordon) Browne of Altamonte Springs, FL; grandsons Kerry (Sharon) Wollin and Stephen Gunstinson; great-grandchildren Justin, Jordan, and Danielle Wollin, as well as many nieces and nephews who all showed her kindness and love. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Loren; son Larry and grandson Kevin Wollin.
